Critics Consensus

Ice Age: Continental Drift 3D has moments of charm and witty slapstick, but it often seems content to recycle ideas from the previous films.

Leonard Maltin leonardmaltin.com Never mind that the freshness of the original Ice Age and its main characters Manny (Ray Romano), Diego (Denis Leary), and Sid (John Leguizamo) has dissipated. How many series could sustain themselves at all through a fourth iteration? Rated: 2.1/2 Jul 13, 2012 Full Review Christopher Orr The Atlantic Yes, this is the part where I outsource my critical role to my children. If you are the kind of person who (quite understandably) abhors this particular gimmick, you may wish to stop reading now. Nota 5/10. It's not bad by any means, but after the high notes of the third movie, this one feels like a slight step down. It's a sold movie, but it just feels a little bit like the franchise is starting to run on fumes. The story this time around is all about the supercontinent Pangea breaking apart, which, of course, is all Scrat’s fault. This separates Manny from Ellie and his daughter Peaches, and he ends up on a floating iceberg with Sid, Diego, and Sid's grandmother. Their journey to get back home is the main plot, and it's full of new characters, most notably a crew of pirate animals led by Captain Gutt, a big ol' ape. The pirate storyline is where it gets a little different. Instead of a tight-knit family adventure, it feels more like a big action movie with a clear villain. The new characters are fine, and some of the jokes land, but it doesn't have the same heart as the previous films. The focus is on the action and the spectacle, which is cool, but it loses some of that personal touch. The movie is still a fun ride, and it’s good to see the gang back together. There are some solid moments, and the animation is great, but it lacks the spark that made the first and third films so special. It's the kind of movie you'd watch if it came on TV, and you’d have a good time, but you probably wouldn't go out of your way to see it. It's just... okay. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/09/25 Full Review Axel V La peor entrega de la franquicia adelante de la 1 %27🤮 Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 07/09/25 Full Review Carter R Despite its beautiful animation, visuals, voice acting, comedy, humor and musical score, Ice Age: Continental Drift suffers from bad storytelling and unoriginality, but I still like the characters in the 4th installment, especially Captain Gutt! He was so funny! But overall, it's okay even though it's a step down from the first 3 films, but it's still enjoyable. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/09/25 Full Review Read all reviews
