Cork B Has a great premise, but the execution is lacking. There is a bunch of extraneous science stuff thrown in for effect that is just dumb - teams of scientists monitoring a 40k yo corpse for vitals? Yelling at each other like this is Stargate? yikes. The movie moves glacially slow (pun intended), and the iceman acts exactly like an anthropology textbook from 1984 would suggest he should act. On the up side, it has its cerebral moments, and the acting and filming is decent. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/10/24 Full Review matthias s "Iceman" had all the ingredients for a chilling cinematic experience but somehow managed to leave me cold. The film boasts well-acted performances that add depth to its intriguing concept. The idea of a thawed-out caveman in modern times is undeniably captivating. However, "Iceman" squandered numerous opportunities to explore its premise fully. The plot seemed to meander, with many missed chances to delve into the cultural clashes and fish-out-of-water comedy potential. Instead, the film often plodded along at a glacial pace, leaving me checking my watch. Despite its commendable performances, I couldn't help but feel bored by the time the credits rolled. The potential for humor and social commentary in this unusual scenario was largely untapped, and the movie left me yearning for more excitement and engagement. "Iceman" could have been a frozen gem, but it sadly melted away into mediocrity. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/15/23 Full Review Audience Member always loved this film, the story and superb acting... this movie might not be for everyone, but it deserves a chance... Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Most of these (maybe all) of these reviews are for a different film from a different era with the same title. "Iceman" stars Timotny Hutton as an anthropologist working with a team in the arctic who discover the body of a Neanderthal who survives being frozen for nearly 40,000 years. The scientists (led by Lindsay Crouse) want to discover what's so unique about him that allowed him to survive while Hutton's character argues for communication and treating him with dignity because, well, he's our ancestor. This character driven science fiction film won't be for everyone but it remains both an intelligent study of a man literally out of time and of both who we are and what we aspire to be. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/11/23 Full Review william s Well intentioned but wildly off the mark drama. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member What a completely wasted opportunity for a thought-provoking discussion about human nature, aiming instead at the most obvious with a dull development and a ridiculous third act that made me imagine what a talented director like Werner Herzog could have done with this material.
