Amin S In the Shadow of Cypress is a short yet powerful animation that delivers a profound message in a simple yet effective way. It touches on a significant issue in modern life: the lingering effects of unresolved trauma on family relationships. The story follows a father struggling with his past wounds, unaware of what truly makes his daughter happy. Instead of working on himself, he has unknowingly prolonged both his own suffering and his daughter's for years. With its emotional depth and concise storytelling, this animation serves as a wake-up call, urging viewers to reflect on how unresolved trauma can shape their relationships. In the Shadow of Cypress reminds us that sometimes, to bring happiness to our loved ones, we must first heal ourselves. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/08/25 Full Review Yasamin K A poetic and visually arresting meditation on memory and legacy, In the Shadow of the Cypress is a must-watch for those who appreciate thoughtful, artful storytelling. The cinematography is breathtaking, with each frame carefully composed to enhance the film’s introspective tone. It's an evocative tale of memory, grief, and the unbreakable tether between the past and present. With its elegant storytelling and striking cinematography, it leaves an indelible mark on the soul. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/07/25 Full Review Dallas H Because there isn't any dialogue but a ton of visual imagery, this movie is an emotional metaphor for many sad moments in humanity. I will not tell you what I interpreted from this story because I think it needs to mean something special and unique for each viewer. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/01/25 Full Review Yash B "In the Shadow of the Cypress" is an okay short film in terms of an engaging storyline, but is really good because of the animation. I felt the style was unique and it kept me wanting to see more. I did feel the emotions of the story were there, but I felt it could have been told in a more interesting and even concise way. Overall, this isn't my personal favorite animated short from the Oscar batch this year, but it is still one I appreciate because of its stellar animation.
