An art collector appeals to Jones to embark on a search for the Holy Grail. He learns that another archaeologist has disappeared while searching for the precious goblet, and the missing man is his own father, Dr. Henry Jones. The artifact is much harder to find than they expected, and its powers are too much for those impure in heart.

Critics Consensus

Lighter and more comedic than its predecessor, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade returns the series to the brisk serial adventure of Raiders, while adding a dynamite double act between Harrison Ford and Sean Connery.

Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times As I watched it, I felt a real delight, because recent Hollywood escapist movies have become too jaded and cynical, and they have lost the feeling that you can stumble over astounding adventures just by going on a hike with your Scout troop. Rated: 3.5/4 May 1, 2023 Full Review Caryn James New York Times Of the three Jones films, The Last Crusade may well become the sentimental favorite, the Indiana to end them all. May 1, 2023 Full Review Harper Barnes St. Louis Post-Dispatch You suspect this movie Is going to be a great deal of fun from the very beginning, when River Phoenix, as the young Indiana Jones, snatches a jeweled cross from grave robbers and flees with it. May 1, 2023 Full Review Lewis Glazebrook Screen Rant Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade remains my favorite in the franchise thanks to its central duo, strong action scenes, and compelling story. Rated: 8/10 Jun 16, 2025 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com ...a rightfully beloved film, a classic story of humble, heroic virtues against moronic, hive-mind evil…Among the action-set-pieces and last-minute rescues, Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade ingeniously has its cake and eats it when it comes to belief... Carson L. Quite simply the greatest action movie ever made. You want boat chases? We got ‘em. You want car chases? Got those too. Planes and motorcycles? Naturally. Tanks, blimps, horses? You bet your fedora. And that’s just the transportation budget. What about characters, you ask? Oh, only the dream team: Han Solo and his dad James Bond teaming up with Gimli to take down the AT-AT commander from Empire Strikes Back (a.k.a. Grand Maester Pycelle for the GOT crowd). Also in attendance: Hitler (briefly, because why not) and a thousand-year-old knight from the Crusades who’s been waiting centuries to hand out some hydration advice. And somehow—somehow—Spielberg and company cram all of this into a coherent, funny, heartfelt adventure that still manages to make you tear up when Jones senior calls his son “Indiana” for the first time. It’s pure movie magic: globe-trotting, death-defying, grail-hunting perfection. Then—because they know when to quit—they literally ride off into the sunset. A flawless ending to a fantastic trilogy that wrapped everything up so perfectly they never made another Indiana Jones movie again. Ever. No unnecessary sequels. No awkward attempts to digitally de-age anyone. No mysterious crystal objects or refrigerator incidents. Just Indy, his dad, the gang, and a sunset. So yeah—The Last Crusade really was the last one. Ever. Definitely. Don’t check. Don’t even think about it. Just let it live forever in your memory—untarnished, unaltered, and completely sequel free. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/28/25 Full Review Leo M "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" is a comedic, witty and action-packed globetrotting adventure, with Harrison Ford and Sean Connery working brilliantly together as father and son. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/21/25 Full Review Isaac K. Great movie instant classic Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/19/25 Full Review Sean R. I love this movie. Two of my favorite actors of all time are in it. Sean Connery made a perfect father to Indiana Jones. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/13/25 Full Review Tyler G About as good as the first one. The set peices are awesome. The dynamic between Connery and Ford works well. I liked it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/18/25 Full Review Graham C If you were to ask me, "what is your favorite film of all-time?," I'd say that it is this without hesitation. This movie sparked my passion for filmmaking, ignited my sense of adventure, and cemented my love of Indiana Jones forever. I have one full-size movie poster on my office wall, and it is of this film! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/26/25 Full Review Read all reviews
