Karl French Financial Times Still, if the film is ultimately disappointing it is in part because it begins so well, and there is a lot to enjoy before the over-the-top final act. Oct 7, 2018 Full Review Deborah Ross The Spectator I like Downey Jr, usually, with his dark wounded eyes, but here his performance veers between going though the motions and a look which seems to say, "Hey, what film am I doing again?" Aug 23, 2018 Full Review David Stratton At the Movies (Australia) What gives this its distinction [is] Robert Downey Jr, who is terrific. Rated: 3.5/5 Jun 15, 2015 Full Review Joseph Garcia Dynamic Duel Podcast An exceptionally well-made debut for Marvel Studios. Fun, engaging and bolstered by a tour-de-force lead turn by Robert Downey Jr. Rated: 4.5/5 Jan 18, 2023 Full Review Nicolás Delgadillo Discussing Film When all is said and done, this is, without a doubt, the Robert Downey Jr. show from start to finish. Audience Member A classic that lives up to this day. Thank you RDjr Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/30/25 Full Review Dave O. If you had told me when I first saw this film what it would lead to with the MCU, I wouldn’t have believed you. But this first entry in the Marvel franchise can stand on its own. It was funny, energetic, and fun. Over the course of the next 22 films, Tony Stark has arguably the best longterm character arc, and it starts here. Jeff Bridges’ Obadiah Stane was a great character and antagonist until the end, when he becomes more of a caricature as Iron Monger. Otherwise it was a great summer action movie and the start of a worthy Franchise. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/29/25 Full Review Noah W I love Iron Man, he is so cool but this movie is bad. How do people enjoy someone getting kidnapped and then the CEO of his company betraying him? That idea is horrible for a Marvel movie. Marvel movies are supposed to be Sci-Fi and unrealistic but this is neither of them. The CGI is good and RDJ does great in it but otherwise don't bother with it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/29/25 Full Review Garrett B Tony Stark is probably the least likeable superhero that I can recall, but the movie was still pretty good. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/29/25 Full Review Solaire V Can't picture anyone else play Tony Stark then the man RDJ himself, can't say anything else other than watch it Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/26/25 Full Review Lucho G The best possible introduction to the MCU. There will never be another Tony Stark like RDJ. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/22/25 Full Review Read all reviews
