Karl French Financial Times Still, if the film is ultimately disappointing it is in part because it begins so well, and there is a lot to enjoy before the over-the-top final act. Oct 7, 2018 Full Review Deborah Ross The Spectator I like Downey Jr, usually, with his dark wounded eyes, but here his performance veers between going though the motions and a look which seems to say, "Hey, what film am I doing again?" Trevor H. The first installment to the MCU and it’s regarded as one of the best movies for good reason. It’s known to have save marvel and yea I completely agree. The story is great, Ironmans origin is pretty cool and he’s very entertaining for the movie. Putting the nostalgia aside, there are elements I think could have been approved like the villain of the movie. He is so forgettable that even after you search the antagonists name on google you’re still not going to remember his name. Overall first movie was amazing 9/10 Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/26/25 Full Review Renaldo D Best hero movie Marvel made. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/25/25 Full Review Donavin D Iron Man was the beginning of what would become one of the most influential film franchises of all time. With engaging action, a standout performance from Robert Downey Jr., and my favorite Iron Man suit design, the 2008 film still holds up—though it’s somewhat weighed down by a flat antagonist. Robert Downey Jr. is Tony Stark. His sharp wit, snarky charm, and his portrayal of a broken but brilliant man define the character and helped set the tone for the entire MCU. What makes Stark so memorable are his genuine imperfections—he’s selfish, arrogant, and deeply human. Watching him fail, grow, and perfect his suit adds a grounded, relatable arc that few superhero films were delivering at the time. Every moment he puts on the armor feels iconic. The film’s biggest weak spot is Obadiah Stane, a mustache-twirling villain who I watch and wonder how no one found out he was evil years ago. His transition into Iron Monger leads to a fairly standard “same vs. same” final battle that doesn’t add to everything else the film works so hard to build up. Still, with its energetic action scenes, fantastic character work, and a career-defining performance from RDJ, Iron Man launched the MCU in the best way possible—and remains one of its most rewatchable entries.
