Critics Consensus

Well-acted and fiendishly frightening with an emotionally affecting story at its core, It amplifies the horror in Stephen King's classic story without losing touch with its heart.

J. R. Jones Chicago Reader The serious dramatic themes ring hollow, however, leaving only the paperback boogety boogety to justify the Oscar-bait running time. Apr 9, 2020 Full Review Karen Han Slashfilm The film depends - and succeeds - entirely on the strength of their performances, and for two hours that speed by all too quickly, it's not too much of a stretch to feel like we're on summer vacation with them. Nov 20, 2017 Full Review Mike Thorn Vague Visages As an adaptation of a great 20th century novel, It completely misses the mark. Dec 12, 2023 Full Review Benedict Seal Vague Visages A more traditional single film adaptation, that followed the dual narrative structure of King’s tome, would have lost It’s creeping absence of the adult... Dec 5, 2023 Full Review Serena Seghedoni Loud and Clear Reviews Why is he disguised as a clown? Why is he targeting children? And what's up with his obsession with making people float? All these questions, whose answers are familiar to those of us who have read the novel, are ever so slightly approached in the movie. Rated: 2.5/5 Nov 4, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Syris It’s so amazing getting to see it again in theaters! I wish they were playing It: Chapter Two as well though :( Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/31/24 Full Review Robert Quinn Still holds up as a modern horror film classic! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/30/24 Full Review Erick P Great standalone movie , hopefully when directors mega cut releases it redeems part 2 . Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/30/24 Full Review Christy Goofy version of the original. A movie should only be remade or built upon if you can out do the original in terms of character development and plot. This failed in so many levels. Found this movie to be very disappointing but maybe if someone hasn't seen the original, they may like it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/21/24 Full Review Brandon An amazing Horror movie!! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/05/23 Full Review Luke v I never read the book, as I am one of those guys that will watch the movies but is too lazy to read the books. Boo on me; I very well deserve it. Anyways, this film being classified as a horror film was definitely the right choice. Even though Pennywise was not horrifying basically every scene with him in the movie (for me), the jumpscares definetly got me. The story is amazing besides the fact that Bill and Beverley get together. I mean, Ben was there from the beginning, sharing interests, and even when she found out he was her secret admirer, she hooked up with Bill. The acting was spectacular, and the movies pacing made me feel like I was in it and actually on vacation! 5/5 for me 100% Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/30/24 Full Review Read all reviews
