What to Know

Critics Consensus

Earnestly performed if marred by clunky dialogue, It Ends With Us is surprisingly at its most graceful when handling the more provocative elements of its melodramatic source material.

A faithful and well-done adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s book, It Ends With Us is an emotional and relatable depiction of bad romance.

Roxana Hadadi New York Magazine/Vulture The movie wants to be a form of comfort food, assuring us that everything would be all right if only women embraced their traditional roles as nurturers, mothers, and healers, but it all just tastes stale. Sep 17, 2024 Full Review Philip De Semlyen Time Out This smart and sensitive movie version will more than satisfy the millions who’ve picked it up and found a bible of sorts for abuse survivors. Rated: 3/5 Sep 11, 2024 Full Review Brooks Eisenbise Chicago Reader Those looking for a genre-redefining cinematic masterpiece or expecting a line-by-line remake will leave the theater disappointed. But those searching for a good enough drama with a few standout performances will get their money’s worth... Aug 30, 2024 Full Review Audra Heinrichs Jezebel Its gravest sin, however, is that it doesn’t portray a broken cycle of abuse at all. Mar 20, 2025 Full Review Tom Meek Cambridge Day As distilled, it’s so turnkey, didactic and flat that it deducts from the traumatic real-life issue it seeks to dramatize. Rated: 2/4 Jan 7, 2025 Full Review Susan Granger SSG Syndicate The theme serves as a reminder to domestic abuse victims that there is a way out. But it's questionable whether actor/director/producer Justin Baldoni will helm Colleen Hoover's sequel, "It Starts With Us," which his Wayfarer Films has also optioned. Craig D The rooftop scene was awkward and the wardrobe was distracting. I really enjoyed the younger characters’ storylines and acting though. Definitely not a fun rom com movie. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/21/25 Full Review Stacey K I went into this movie opening day not knowing anything about it. just going to a movie and it for sure hit home for me and my situation. and for I believe a lot of women I mean this is such a domestic violence is an increasingly overlooked situation in the United States. Sadly Blake (& Ryan) tantrum really took away from the meaning. DV a version of being trafficked - abuse by the same vile evil person over and over and over. Sadly women have to get themselves out of it. I feel for the women with children. Every woman's experience is uniquely different and EVERY man is exactly the same...power, control, manipulation, gaslighting, and for some violence. Beautifully broken story. I thought all performances were great, now I can't stand seeing BL & RR faces 👿 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/05/25 Full Review Ms. Munoz Not relevant to the book. Was glamorized as a loved story. Didn’t see any of the key parts of the book. Blake’s wardrobe was hideous! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/25 Full Review TM Book is obviously better but I still enjoyed it despite all the hate. The book gets a lot of hate, no surprise that the movie is controversial too. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/25/25 Full Review Davy Vang Overall a great movie for the ages. left me speechless. A must see! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/16/25 Full Review Meccassault My girlfriend dragged me to see this film, and I assumed this was going to be a standard love chick flick... I was thankful to be absolutely wrong. This is a very well written and solid acted film. Trust, love, anger, betrayal, anxiety, etc.. it's got it all. I left feeling the performances and happy I went. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/10/25 Full Review Read all reviews
