Audience Member This doc was really really bad. 30 seconds in I wanted to slap this kid and all of his friends. If you want to watch a bunch of stupid kids being shitheads acting like they know everything then waste your time on this doc. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review dave d A documentary that chronicles the life of a 16-year old who is desperate to become internet famous. It's sad. Social media is put to the test and fails miserably. I'm all for improving your life but watching people who aren't happy for 90 minutes is tough. I just get the impression that the filmmaker is judging her lead character, Austyn Tester. When Tester isn't the central figure the film is interesting. There were some interesting issues that I wanted to see to their conclusion, but the viewer is left hanging. Entertaining, yet frustrating, it's a take it or leave it kinda film. Final Score: 6.1/10 Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member An eye opening look into a younger generation Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member I’ve gotta say this is definitely the best most effective documentary I’ve seen about social media stars and fame. Austin was a perfect subject for this. There’s a lot of empathy for him especially in the last act. The film does have some problems and wasn’t the biggest fan of the ending but I really enjoyed it. I really felt his emotions through everything. I like that his family was such a big part of the film as well. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/24/19 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Alessa Dominguez BuzzFeed News In some ways, Jawline is so in thrall to those old narratives that it sometimes fails to explore what is actually new...still, its sober approach is a welcome change of tone for coverage of an industry that is here to stay. Apr 7, 2022 Full Review Richard Brody New Yorker [Mandelup] rushes from clip to clip, from sound bite to sound bite; the results are superficial and frustrating. Aug 26, 2019 Full Review Todd Gilchrist TheWrap Offers a surprisingly compassionate look not just at one rural Tennessee kid's bid for virtual stardom, but also at the digital celebrity-industrial complex that perpetuates itself by dehumanizing people into content-generating commodities. Aug 23, 2019 Full Review Callie Hitchcock Vague Visages One of Jawline’s main tensions comes from circling the question “Can we really self-actualize out of any circumstance?” Sep 21, 2023 Full Review Ella Kemp Hyperallergic Mandelup isn't deluded about the limited shelf life of this love affair, but she isn't cruel about those who pursue it, either. She sees the crevasses in Austyn's ambition, and also gives a voice to the girls watching him. Feb 27, 2020 Full Review Matt Cipolla The Spool It may be cringingly funny at times, but Jawline transcends easy schadenfreude. Jan 17, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews
