Nella Fitzgerald Shadow and Act Jean of the Joneses is a fine debut. Jan 23, 2017 Full Review Julia Cooper Globe and Mail Takes its cues from both Woody Allen's self-indulgent worlds and the literary panache of Zadie Smith, but remains original in its darkly funny perspective ... Rated: 3.5/4 Nov 11, 2016 Full Review Sean L. Malin Austin Chronicle Highly visually controlled, snappily edited, and beautifully acted, Jean of the Joneses is a clever New York comedy about the Caribbean diaspora. Oct 6, 2016 Full Review Joelle Monique Black Girl Nerds The greatest treat of Jean of the Joneses is the immigrant heritage of the films plays right on the surface. Sep 6, 2018 Full Review Ethan Vestby Cinema Scope Considering that it's based in such a particular milieu, it's disappointing that so much of Jean of the Joneses feels commonplace, from dialogue that consists mostly of sitcom-ready quips to staid mise en scne that stagnates Paige's game performance. Oct 16, 2017 Full Review Jake Howell NOW Toronto While its themes don't feel properly developed, breakout title actor Taylour Paige and her fictional family (including Sherri Shepherd and Gloria Reuben) make the Joneses worth keeping up with. Audience Member Refreshing film created with deep essence and culture. Showcasing black women in their beauty, smarts and wits. This movie is very relatable to our times. Black films can be more than slavery - for we are so much more than a period of time. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/12/22 Full Review Audience Member A little off the pacing, but I liked the uneven acting, the lead actually came off as a little unstable and fragile. Good story. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member I enjoyed the movie Jean of the Jones immensely ... great story line ... phenomenal actors who were believable in character and really brought the script to life.. well done!
