Eric L @Eric_94 Feb 25 Reaching for "Reviewer's Cliches No. 73", the real star of this film is the parched, flat New Mexico landscape, which appears by turn bleak, threatening, isolating and starkly beautiful. Director Pete Ohs (whose name I always thought was an anagram) doesn't leave any shot to chance. Callie Hernandez is wonderful as the sort of 'witchy woman' who also makes out in the back seat of a car and lights up a cigarette afterwards. Her performance is consistently compelling. Ashley Denise Robinson is suitably shell-shocked and subdued as the wronged lover Jessica, with a stalker who can't pronounce her name properly. Initially I feared this was going to be played for laughs, but the atmosphere is always unsettling, hinting at the supernatural dimension that opens up as the plot progresses. One of those films that - pun ahoy - comes back to haunt you, months after seeing it. See more dave d 12/03/2023 An unorthodox film that I didn't get. There are ghosts and there are special rules and it's kinda sci-fi, but it also wants to be somewhat realistic. At 71 minutes it is a breeze and the audio is building to something that never happens. The reveal doesn't satisfy. There are some elements here that work, but then it becomes a ghost film. Not my cup of tea. See more prawnda s 07/09/2023 it's interesting, but some scenes and dialogue feel a little too drawn out. screambox is not known for making finished products, so the 110 minute runtime is probably for the best. budget is very low, but i liked it enough. i'm taking off another half star because the after credits scene was 100% redundant. one of the other reviews said "it came full circle in a satisfying way" or something, and frankly it did not. sure, they used some of the same phrasing, but there was zero impact to this scene, and the criteria for IDing a ghost just didn't have any kind of ring to it. "can you touch my hand?" was just an empty and meaningless final line. we did not need a fourth ghost, especially one who is only on screen for 10 seconds. The story is simple, set in a barren landscape, and only has about 5 characters but is atmospheric and interesting enough to get a perfect score from me.
