      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Jiu Jitsu pits an ancient order of warriors against an alien invasion -- yet despite that appealingly bizarre premise and a cast that includes Nicolas Cage and Tony Jaa, it's the audience that loses.

Danny C Garbage. A cheesy take on AVP and Mortal Kombat. Watching this movie is the absolute equivalent of spending the length of it looking at a choreographed youtube play fight video thought up and scripted and using poor camera tech put together by a bunch of clueless fourteen year olds with nothing better to do. I thought hey it has Nicholas Cage so what the heck. How couldnt it be cool for that but nooooooooo. This was definitely not like his other movies in the past. Here whomever made this movie missed the plot entirely. They abandoned rationality in the doing of anything for ridicule instead. They took the concept of what could have been something brilliant in the line of action and martial arts and flushed it down the drain. How it starts is when it begins you think that ok this is kind of poorly put together at first glance. But like many good movies it may yet get better so Il give it another chance. After about an hour you start to regret it more and more. Until finally you cant watch it any more because it's so boring. In summary if you are looking for anything of movies like AVP and Mortal Kombat and Red Belt then stick with them instead until you find something new but until then accurately speaking this particular one is not it just know. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/28/24 Full Review Sunwoo K This was one of the worst movies I've ever seen in my entire life. I don't even know why Nicholas Cage or any other reputable actors accepted to being in such a stupid movie. The director must have been high most of the time. DO NOT WATCH, biggest waste of time and industry money spent on a movie ever. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/18/24 Full Review Dan D Wow, this was bad. The alien was a cross between the Predator and robot from the Netflix version of Lost in Space. Bad story, bad dialogue, bad acting, bad action scenes. This was awful. Nicolas Cage couldn't save this thing. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/25/23 Full Review Portal C This movie rips off Predator, Cowboys & Aliens(Not kidding), Hardcore Henry and a host of other movies. Its bad and not a good bad, or a bad good, just bad. Do not support this movie in any way, shape or form. I feel bad for watching it. I had hoped it would've gotten cringy good when Nicolas Cage shows up, but no, it didn't. Overall, the lead chick is pretty good, but that might be because I think she's hot. Everyone else is a plank of wood. Crab man tries, but, he can't do it all. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/16/23 Full Review Cris T It is inconceivable that a good actor would be willing to participate in something so horrible. Nicolas Cage must be short of money or short of attention. A mix between Predator and Mortal Kombat, but with a low budget. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/20/23 Full Review Kleverton K Fiquei surpreso em como o filme se desenrola bem, a premissa de um combatente do espaço que por causa de um cometa que passa perto da Terra de 6 em 6 anos me deixa intrigado mas o que me deixou de queixo caido foram os efeitos especiais, mesmo sendo um filme com muitos patrocínios os efeitos sao de nivel primeira classe Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/04/22 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Nick Schager The Daily Beast Indebted to arcade fighting hits that prize complicated button-mashing combos over serious characterizations and drama. Feb 3, 2021 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian The action sequences are weirdly extended and bland, like game-play action from a first-person game. Rated: 2/5 Dec 17, 2020 Full Review Tambay Obenson indieWire While Cage finally appears about 40 minutes into the film as an eccentric expert swordsman who makes paper hats in his spare time, the levity of his very presence provides some measure of a relief. Rated: D Nov 25, 2020 Full Review Daniel Barnes Dare Daniel Cage goes Obi-Yawn Kenobi as a neo-hippie martial arts mentor, but cedes the lead to Canadian stuntman, martial artist and charisma black hole Alain Moussi. Jiu Jitsu comes up short on every level, especially in the omnipresent fight scenes. Rated: 1/5 Sep 19, 2023 Full Review Carla Hay Culture Mix Jiu Jitsu has nothing to do with the martial arts craft of jiu jitsu, just like this movie has nothing to do with high-quality entertainment. It's just a messy parade of sci-fi action schlock with tacky visual effects. Apr 17, 2022 Full Review Matt Lynch In Review Online [Cage's] presence alone here manages to take Jiu Jitsu from what might've otherwise been a self-serious slog to a place far more adventurously weird.
