In the 15th century, both France and England stake a blood claim for the French throne. Believing that God had chosen her, the young Joan leads the army of the King of France. Critics Consensus

Joan of Arc (Jeanne) definitely offers a different take on this oft-told tale, although it isn't always able to deliver absorbing drama.

Tara Brady Irish Times Not for everyone, but those seeking a battle against the English staged in the medium of horse choreography will not be disappointed. Jun 25, 2020 Full Review Ignatiy Vishnevetsky AV Club But though it has a silly sense of humor, Joan Of Arc lacks a sense of surprise-something that can't be said of other recent Dumont projects. Rated: C+ May 21, 2020 Full Review Kathy Fennessy Video Librarian Magazine If [Bruno] Dumont's feminist aims weren't clear before, Joan's resistance to doubt and intimidation makes her the most powerful figure in the film, even as that power gets turned against her. Rated: 4/5 Apr 14, 2021 Full Review Armond White National Review For Dumont, revisionist history -- and revisionist filmmaking -- is not a matter of do-over. It's about starting over and for reasons that we must heed. Nov 20, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Much of this film is absurd as an historical drama. Many of the characters are wooden, with the exception of the young actress portraying Joan. Even more absurdly, I was somehow moved by Joan but I think that's as much about already being moved by the actual historiography of this remarkable 15th girl. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Challenging but brilliant sequel to Jeanette (2017). The sound is sublime, the visuals are stunning, and the delivery of lines so jarring as to really create an autocritique of itself. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Tedious, passionless, torpid pace, some baffling casting choices and amateurish acting.
