Audience Member Parts are funny. Is this Harry Potter's brother? Funny for a British person. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the best stand-up routines I have seen in the last 10 years. I still cannot believe John Oliver does not have a show of his own like Stephen Colbert does. I thought Oliver might have the personality and the strength to carry a spin-off show like Colbert has given Oliver's contributions to the Daily Show. Some of the bits by Oliver in this stand-up special still make me laugh, none harder than his take on US foreign policy under George W. Bush. "Kenya has three apples. US wants three apples. How many apples does Kenya have?" This is multiple choice but all answers end with zero. Hilarious. I also loved Oliver's take on FOX News and how Bush could help the peace process in the Middle East. Still going strong on the Daily Show, I cannot wait to for the next John Oliver special. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member John Oliver completely cracks me up. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Loved it! Love him! John doesn't shy away from darker topics or real politics. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member The last group of "correspondents" from The Daily Show, namely Ed Helms, Rod Cordry and Stephen Colbert were amongst the best comedy has ever seen. While I'm not quite as enthusiastic about some of their replacements, John Oliver stands out as being a more-than-worthy follow-up to the Colbert's and Helms' of the comic world. In his own standup special, John Oliver brings his combination of opinion, British wit and sarcasm to the American stage. His standup moves more like a presentation rather than the typical setup-punchline-laugh-repeat style of many comics. He makes many humorous observations about anything from Fox News to creationism that won't surprise many but rather done in a way that still has a broader appeal than other, more angry topical comics. For a "debut" special, John Oliver gives a solid hour of comedy. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the best stand-up routines I have seen in the last 10 years. Mike Hale New York Times Watching Mr. Oliver pose clueless questions to serious people on "The Daily Show" can be painfully funny. Watching him onstage for an hour is more like anesthesia. Aug 1, 2019 Full Review Maureen Ryan Chicago Tribune "John Oliver: Terrifying Times..." should appeal to fans of his sardonic, intellectual brand of humor. Aug 1, 2019 Full Review Andrew Winistorfer PopMatters Terrifying Times isn't likely to end up as anyone's favorite stand-up film of all time, but it offers a smart take on some of the major topics facing the civilized world in the 21st Century. Rated: 7/10 Aug 1, 2019 Full Review Ryan Cracknell Movie Views What Oliver has to say might not be the most comforting, but rather than stating the potentially inevitable as a doomsday scenario, he makes it funny, enlightening and educational.
