Howard Thompson New York Times Joy in the Morning, with television's teen-age idol, Richard Chamberlain, and young Yvette Mimeux braving the woes of young married life, is a soap opera for teen-agers. Nov 19, 2018 Full Review Variety Staff Variety There is an absence of anything unusual happening and nothing is accomplished to overcome this lack through strong buildup of characterization. Feb 23, 2012 Full Review TV Guide Staff TV Guide The film is a bit melodramatic, and the direction is uneven. Chamberlain's performance is average, and Mimieux isn't too bad. Rated: 2/5 Nov 19, 2018 Full Review David Parkinson Radio Times It forces you to take sides with either workaholic Chamberlain or his neglected bride, Yvette Mimieux, neither of whom are particularly sympathetic characters. Rated: 2/5 Nov 19, 2018 Full Review Tony Mastroianni Cleveland Press Scrub away some of the gloss and goo and this story of young love might have been slightly -- but only slightly -- more credible. Audience Member Charming, if at times a little melodramatic, tale of a young couple trying to make it despite family pressure and other issues. Yvette Mimieux is excellent here, one of the to few chances she got to display her talent. Chamberlain is earnest if a bit bland, he does however sing the title song surprisingly well. A lovely little known gem. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Sweet. Found the resolution to be too ideal, however.
