aya t @ayaueta 1d hey, I'ved seen a similar plot from the much more better 5 star original screwball movie with barbara stanwyck called "Christmas in Connecticut!" but where stanwyck plays a single nyc girl magazine writer who pretends to be the perfect farm housewife w' baby for her lifestyle column with recipes n homemaking tips but has like zero experiance hosting a xmas dinner party for a ww2 war hero. problem is she can't even boil water, but gets roped into hosting by her publisher, lol. she also ends up complicating the sit by falling for the warhero. It is not terrible but it is far from great, mainly due to a screenplay that feels loose and overly dependent on ad-libbed dialogue. While the film has moments of charm, many scenes feel rushed, especially when the story should slow down to build emotional weight. Chad Michael Murray is one of the film’s strongest elements, delivering a grounded performance that helps carry the uneven narrative. He commits fully, even when the dialogue drifts into corny territory, and brings credibility to scenes the script does not fully earn. The concept of a woman inventing a family to sell a book, shaped by her foster care upbringing, is compelling. Unfortunately, this emotional core is underdeveloped, resulting in a payoff that feels muted. Supporting characters are thinly written, which further weakens the impact. Overall, Joy to the World is a watchable seasonal film with a cute idea, but it struggles to deliver lasting depth. See more Dom W @dw673 Dec 10 I can handle bad movies. But this is another level. Their snowball fight was them throwing tennis balls that were painted white. They literally rebounded off the ground. Writing is absolutely terrible. Chad Michael Murray clearly is struggling financially to accept this role. See more Natasha M Nov 30 This movie felt like watching a Beverly Hills mom get the role of a lead actress. A lot of the writing is just awkward and weird. I miss 2000’s romcoms when they stuck to the formula and made things that were so good you’d watch it again. This movie felt more shallow than a kiddie pool. Would not recommend unless you wanna waste a hour and a half of your life. It went down fairly easily but not the kind of movie I would watch again or even recommend. Likable but shallow characters, forced mild comedy and almost no chemistry between the two leads. See more John E Nov 4 Much better than expected. The writing/directing wasn't bad and the acting was quite good. Not sure who "All Canadian" is but they did a good job delivering this movie.
