Giuseppe Sedia Kino Mania As a cinematic ode to the Nineties in Poland, this well-packed thriller must be certainly appealing also to the streaming generations that did not live those days. It would hold its own even in a movie theatre. Gabriel S Justice, AKA Napad, from Michal Gazda, is a slow-driven thriller and drama story about the battle of wills between a senior detective from the Communist Era and a young man who would do anything to get his life together. It is a solid story about the effects of trauma on younglings, trauma on the elderlies, and the aftermath of Communism in Eastern Europe, all in beautiful white Poland. The story follows Tadeusz Gadacz, a former Polish Secret Services agent that gets a final chance to redeem himself by solving the hit and run robbery of a Polish bank that is at the eye of the Government to try to move Poland forward economically. To crack the case, Tadeusz must buddy cop with Aleksandra Janicka, a rookie trying to do what is right. Napad follows classic buddie cop dynamics: one is senior, the other is newbie, one would do anything, the other wants to do what is right. Overall, Napad is entertaining mainly for its seriousness, the tone really giving characters that breadth of reality in the freezing cold, brutalism Polish landscape. But some traits are off. For starters, the movie fails to develop enough the main characters. We get our fair share of dialogue exposition, but all of them clearly have solid backstories that we get to only imagine, thus weakening the power of this movie's ending. Another pet peeve is the lack of better buddy cop interaction. Tadeusz likes to work alone, but Aleksandra seems to never try to take matters into her own terms, so we never really see her growing. The movie is really interested on showing the battle of wills between Tadeusz and the antagonist, which is solid, but some of the secondary characters feel almost dismissible because of this focus. Nonetheless, Napad delivers an above-average crime drama, one that should hook serious watchers for a good treat. It might fail a bit on character development, but the sum of all elements culminates in a film that is somewhat a nice hidden gem. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/10/25 Full Review Adam W Very realistic. Very good acting. Not extremally fascinating but interesting script without idiotic events like in typical Hollywood movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/02/25 Full Review Carlos T Filme: Assalto Brutal Assistido: 04-01-25 Elenco: @lubaszenkoo @jedzejhycnar @magda_boczarska @rogucki_rogucki @kazik_mazur Modelo: #policial #suspense Duração: 1h 53m Ano: 2024 Minha opinião: Um filme polonês, ao estilo europeu, traz este filme policial. Nota: Classe C 8, Classe A 5 Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/04/25 Full Review Nicolette M Thoroughly enjoyed. They can definitely pursue a second movie or a series with the two detectives as partners. An authentic vibe between them that comes across well. The scriptwriters must just get the cases as interesting as this one. Cinematography and depicting Poland was also great. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/20/24 Full Review Alain E A serviceable police procedural from post communism Poland. As required, no character has a working family life. The hero is a police officer who has been forced into retirement due to his association with the Party. Apparently he is the only one with experience to work on a recent bloody bank robbery. Estranged from his family he is now peddling kitschy lawn ornaments. He is paired with a younger divorced female officer. On the plus side, we don’t have an improbable on the job hookup. Kind like an overweight Philip Marlowe, minus the cigarettes and the booze, he is able to figure out what happened. The end is a little weak. A seasoned policeman would have checked for weapons a criminal responsible for multiple murders, before allowing him to exit a building alone. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/20/24 Full Review Barry K i thought it was really good. i especially liked the gritty and realistic atmosphere of Poland after the fall of communism there. very well filmed. not many crime thrillers let the viewer know in advance who the perps are and yet still can keep one’s interest. a series of screw ups by screw ups robbing a bank. climactic flashback scene as to why the victims were murdered. all the acting was very good. especially the bad guy, the weak guy and the old school detective. i recommend it.
