Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times We start with a standard drug movie and end up with so many monologues to the dog that the dialogue coach must have needed a pooper scooper. Rated: 2/4 May 28, 2003 Full Review Jim Schembri jimschembri.com Vastly underrated 1989 comedy...a perfectly sound, serviceable dog-movie comedy that never got the salute it deserved. Rated: 3/5 Mar 16, 2022 Full Review Austin Kennedy Sin Magazine K-9 is more generic and boring than being an outright disaster, but perhaps that would have been more entertaining. Alexander H I had fun watching this - isn't that all that matters in the end? Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/25/25 Full Review Audience Member Un excelente comedia para pasar un domingo por la noche le tengo mucho cariño a esta bien llevada comedia Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/22/25 Full Review Jim M Rotten Tomatoes wants it fun and respectful. And specific. K-9 is a dog movie. The best acting was, by far, the dog, and the writing seems to have a dog's understanding of human dynamics. I think a dog watched Beverly Hills Cop, drank a few beers, and typed out the script in an hour. I enjoy a good suspension of disbelief, but even suspension presupposes that you hang on to reality by thread. The totally proposterous relationship Belushi's character has with his girlfriend in which he has zero respect for her time or input or value to his life (she owns a very nice house in which he lives) and she accepts all that as her wacky life where her boyfriend is just that committed to catching bad guys. Unlike Eddie Murphy's delivery of Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop, Belushi is incapable of producing believable commitment that is shrouded in irreverent humor. The movie feels like a high school production. At a bad high school; that has never seen a good movie; and only had Beverly Hills Cop described to it by a dog. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/20/25 Full Review Keith S I'm not a fan of James Bulushi at all but I thought he was stellar in this fun movie. It kept a good vibe and fun, funny groove throughout the entire movie which was a nice change of pace for these types of movies. It was just GOOD. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/10/25 Full Review Liam D An mixture of an Buddy cop movie and an man with his dog story and while those two don’t normally mixed well and the jokes do get stale it isn’t horrible Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/12/24 Full Review C.S.R I love this film! In my opinion it's the best dog/buddy movie. I love how the dog knows everything he's talking about. Jerry Lee is the best K-9 partner ever! Jim Belushi and the dog have awesome chemistry and made the movie hilarious. Can't recommended enough! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/04/24 Full Review Read all reviews
