c m For all its faults, this is an important history lesson for anyone who watches. This is a true story about real people & a real event which took place in occupied Warsaw in March 1943 & which was then almost immediately immortalised in a novel of the same name, which itself takes its title from a 19th century poem. It deals well with the complexities & moral quandaries of resistance in Occupied Poland, but may also be somewhat incomprehensible for a non Polish audience not already well acquainted with these legendary characters & the nature of occupation under Nazi Germany. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/24 Full Review Audience Member gr8 movie for me 10/10 would see again Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member An engaging 'true story' about Polish derring-do in World War Two. The film portrays the Germans simplistically as evil sadists or cannon fodder, making this a slightly simplistic and mythological portrait of Polish heroism. The result is fairly gripping, but without much of the nuance and subtlety of Walesa Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Read all reviews
