It was the first time I truly envisioed the geography and challengesof travel and existence that were a realityfor Mary and Joseph. For content and scholarly input I would give this a 4 or 5. The production offers a more realistic context to the birth of Christ. Each aspect of the Christmas story from Jesus' conception to childhood, paints each key event as truly significant. . To my surprise what I struggled with was Kevin Costner's hosting. I've seen Costner live in his band and he definitely has "it". He is a charismatic, & compelling individual. In this he seems wooden and inauthentic. Perhaps the topic is meaningful and serious to him. Whatever the reason, this is not Costner at his most engaging. The casting of the actors allows us to imagine the Holy Family as actually being Middle Eastern people. Yet the British accent of Joseph is distracting. Overall, worth a watch.
