Brian K This documentary chose to focus on proactive approaches to working with people suffering from Alzheimer's and dementia, such as artistic expression and creative adaptation to enhance quality of life amid difficult phases of life. I was especially inspired by the artist daughter of Alice who found ways to celebrate her mother through art and in the process connecting with her mother in ways previously un-felt, highlighting the essential need of caregivers for self-care. This aspect was not highly emphasized in the film, since most of those featured had loving relationships with the sufferer, so neither was there a spotlight on more difficult cases where the sufferer remembers little of the details of one's life but much negative emotion that caregivers often take the brunt of. The film might have fleshed out the topic a little more by featuring another more challenging emotional situation, but I understand the focus was providing agency to all involved and not overwhelming the viewer. Overall, this was a moving, heart-warming and impactful survey of how these difficult diseases affect individuals, families and entire cultures.
