Charlotte O'Sullivan London Evening Standard The kids' movie market is crowded with superior specimens; they'll eat Khumba alive. Rated: 2/5 Apr 11, 2014 Full Review David Jenkins Little White Lies A dearth of new and interesting ideas characterises this stock animated caper with furry critters a-plenty. Rated: 2/5 Apr 11, 2014 Full Review Donald Clarke Irish Times If it were a little worse then it might offer some mindless good fun. Rated: 2/5 Apr 11, 2014 Full Review Jason Best Movie Talk The animation is vibrant and the voice cast impressive... So it's a great shame that the animators and actors are let down by the meandering plot and trite dialogue. Aug 25, 2014 Full Review Rich Cline Contactmusic.com When this South African animated adventure embraces its unique setting and characters, it's visually stunning and a lot of fun. Rated: 3.5/5 Apr 14, 2014 Full Review David Aldridge Radio Times Khumba isn't original - it's indebted in particular to The Lion King and Madagascar - but younger kids should enjoy the colourful safari. qwerty k WHERE IS THE 3D!? WHERE IS IT!? It claims to be a 3D Blu-ray on the cover art so WHERE IS IT!? It has the banner "Blu-ray 3D+Blu-ray+DVD" RIGHT up on the top of the front case art. There's only the DVD and Blu-ray in the case so I figured the 3D version of the film was stuffed alongside the regular one on the Blu-ray but it's just NOT THERE! What the F*****!? The audio production master must've also been too busy touching themselves because this whole movie is WAY too quiet. I thought it was my setup because I had to crank the volume on my TV _all the way up to 100% in some scenes_ so I could actually listen to the film. On a significantly less negative note, the movie is quite..... "ADHD brained". Quite a few things kinda just..... Happen. Like the scene where Khumba gets chased down by hunters in SUVs. I ended up laughing at the scene where the cars circle around him in this cartoonish lion manner because it was just SO OUT OF LEFT FIELD. There are a few good jokes in here. The villain two boulders thing was actually really funny. It you can find it cheap then sure, watch it. Otherwise..... No. Just, no. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/17/25 Full Review Audience Member The best movie ever made, way better than Jurassic World: Rebirth! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/06/25 Full Review Serina S This movie is very special to me and my kids. It not only has a beautiful South African music soundtrack; but they also integrated a bit of American blues/jazz & some twangy country sounds as well. The storyline is excellent, it has what most modern day films are lacking which is 'a moral to the story'. Despite what others think or say-- Embrace your individuality that sets you apart. The Characters are beautifully animated and their personalities are exceptionally relatable; it's probably due to the talented voice actors cast in this Fun Family Film!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/25 Full Review Audience Member I watched it with my son and thought it was fun and empathetic, the characters where great 👍 I specially enjoyed Phango and Khumba the last part had me at the edge of my seat. It was a lovely idea for accepting and loving your differences as well as bravery and friendship. Overall I enjoyed it, and unlike most critics I enjoy and look at the positive of a story not constantly try to pull negativity like pulling teeth. 🙄 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/12/24 Full Review Marita F Missed opportunity to showcase South African culture. Why do all the animals have such strong American accents? I was also unimpressed by the American country/jazz music when this could have been an opportunity for a soundtrack that displayed the music of South Africa. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/11/24 Full Review Diesel G Completely mediocre, overrated and boring Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/19/24 Full Review Read all reviews
