It takes 3 days of repeated chores to portray imprisonment, but apparently 1 day in the life of a woodcutter is enough to show freedom. Jeanne Dielman would work as poorly as a 70-minute film just as La Libertad could commit the mortal sin of tedium if it goes for 200 minutes. This said, La Libertad is a fluid, hypnotic, and wildly entertaining film. It is also an antidote to the strained poeticism of Carlos Reygadas' Japon. See more Read all reviews
