Nicole C I love this female-centric documentary especially around a specific geographical location (Los Angeles). It showed women from all walks of life, ages, all shapes and sizes, and in various stages of their lives. One thing that bothered me the most though, was the lack of black representation. There were two black women (if you don't count Rosario Dawson's poetry); one seemed to be "poor" and pregnant and the other was a struggling actress having to hide her natural hair under wigs in the hopes of landing a good part. All of the well-off people or middle class were white. Why? They couldn't find not one succesful black woman to profile in this documentary? Edited to say: I just found out that the write and director is a black woman, Nana Ghana. That makes me even more baffled by the omittence of successful black women in this film. I'm sure LA has quite a few strong, black women who made it on their own and would have been willing to share their stories. We need more representation of black women who have made it despite society telling them otherwise. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/07/21 Full Review Read all reviews
