Roger Greenspun New York Times L'Amour Fou, while possibly not a masterpiece, is a work of such interest, skill and intelligence that it deserves to be something better than a legend -- in what is, after all, still its own time. Rated: 4/5 Nov 12, 2007 Full Review Time Out Rivette's claim to the status of a key innovator in contemporary cinema began with this film. Nov 12, 2007 Full Review Keith Uhlich Slant Magazine L'Amour Fou is a transitional work for Jacques Rivette, the bridge to the superb Out 1 and its equally masterful re-edit Spectre. Rated: 2.5/4 Jan 13, 2007 Full Review Javier Ocaña El Pais (Spain) A cinematic, cultural, social, and human experience... [Full review in Spanish] May 10, 2024 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com ‘…Rivette’s magic is the way that his films take us back to an unexplored, unexamined past that we can explore for ourselves as if we’re living someone else’s life….’ Rated: 5/5 May 7, 2024 Full Review Diane Carson KDHX (St. Louis) ... Audience Member cinegeek.de Our Daily Free Stream: Jacques Rivette - L'Amour Fou (engl. subt.). Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member I don't really feel like saying anything about the film other than I watched all 252 minutes. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member The first half is brilliant. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member I'm not quite sure what to say here. The film is four hours long about, and it's about a film being made. In some ways I can't believe I watched the whole thing, but there is just something about it... (review to be continued). Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Much better than I expected it to be, better than Out 1, in fact, similar themes in a more compact form, with a disastrous, co-dependent relationship at it's core. When Bulle Ogier balances opened Matryoshka dolls on her bed and quizzically looks at them, it's the perfect metaphor for Rivette's early cinema. Or at least until the neat mirrors facing each other in one of the last chapters of Out 1. I mean, this is what I would say about the movie if I were a douchebag Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Rivette has worked the concept of actors performing a work and the effect it has on their lives in many of his films (Va Savior, Gang of Four) but here it is done to perfection. The performances by Bulle Ogier and Jean Pierre Kalfon are the finest of their careers. A masterpiece. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
