Synopsis
Carl Akerblom (Börje Ahlstedt) has been committed to a mental hospital for trying to kill his fiancée, Pauline (Marie Richardson). Upon his release, Carl, Pauline and another patient, Osvald (Erland Josephson), decide to make a "talking silent film" based on the final years of composer Franz Schubert. The movie's premiere is nearly a disaster, but Carl perseveres in his artistic vision and tries to maintain sanity, even as his mental disorder causes terrible difficulties.
