scret s Film review: Lars is LOL I chose the film Lars is LOL to write a film review. I decided to choose this film because I noticed many positive and some negative aspects of the film while watching it. The film attracted me because of the title and trailer and the fact that the special features of people with Down syndrome were shown. I really liked the realistic depiction of most people's view of people with special needs. Most people think that people with deviant behavior are unusual or even strange. This was very clearly shown in how Lars was mocked with the words "Lars is LOL". Lars was also humiliated and a website was created about him, where his pictures and videos were published. This is the theme of the entire film. I was also convinced by the acting. Everyone got into their roles well and gave the film a sense of authenticity, for example: the actor Lars portrayed the behavior of people with Down syndrome well, which was also helped by the fact that he himself has Down syndrome. This was an important part of the film, as it allows the viewer to see how a person with Down syndrome perceives the environment and people around them and their behavior. The negative attitude shown moved me. Despite all the serious themes about how Lars was made fun of, the film also has humorous elements. The most obvious are the "magic tricks" that Lars does with his father, which are taken from the book and film Harry Potter, such as "Gnjavitus stopus" and the funny naming of everyday things, such as noodles being called "Laski" and milk being called laughing milk. Both events also show the bright side of the film, and prove that the film is not that dark, because I laughed a lot while watching such scenes. I also really liked the set design, which had unusual shades of colors, for example Lars' house was painted bright yellow, which you rarely see in real life. I was also attracted by the fact that the film was set in modern times, which could be seen with the frequent use of smart devices. For example, when Lars humiliates Amanda and the girls who were present in the hall recorded the event and posted it on social networks. Despite the many good aspects of the film, I also noticed a few shortcomings. One of them was the music, where they exaggerated and gave a sense of a tense atmosphere, when in reality nothing special was happening, while in the parts of the film where there was tension, they played calm music or completely muted it. Such an example occurred a few moments before Lars realized that Amanda had betrayed him. At that time, they could have played tense music, but they decided to completely mute the music, because in my opinion it ruined the moment. One of the things that also bothered me was the costume design. In addition to the colorful scenery, they could also put a little more emphasis on the clothes, because in most cases they seemed very dark/colorless, which made the film darker and sadder. The bad side of the film was also that Amanda wanted to do everything just to not be embarrassed. This bothered me, because she knew what problems Lars had, but still preferred to embarrass him than herself. This is clearly seen when she wanted the video where Lars embarrassed her to be deleted from the internet in exchange for Lars' pictures when he was doing magic tricks . When Lars discovered this, their relationship changed a lot. The last thing that bothered me was that it was sweetened because Amanda could have put more effort into apologizing to Lars, for example, writing him a message, drawing a picture... Because of this, the film lost a lot of my interest in the end. This is my opinion about the film. I find the film enjoyable to watch, because it presents a big problem in today's society. I would recommend it to anyone who likes to watch drama with a touch of humor, as there are many funny situations in the film at certain moments. However, I would not recommend the film to a very emotional person, as certain moments in the film could hurt them very much. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/25 Full Review Read all reviews
