Oh and Sally Field absolutely shines in character A little less pizazz than the previous one but still glitzy enough. Written with a little less punch but still good story. Whole cast excels in character. Good cinematography and visually appealing. Lots of sass, drama, humor, action, twists and emotion. This is like a chick flick comedy mixed with Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. I know how weird that sounds but there isn't any other way to put it. Everything is ok I guess. It has a Peter Segal tone and feel to the whole thing. Probably influenced by it. Pretty basic direction the whole time. It doesn't repeat the first but there also isn't the same level of strong character development, witty laughs which are replaced with dumb humor, and a inconsistent sometimes nostalgic plot. The plot osscillates between ridiculously dumb braindead and somewhat clever and having potential. Sometimes it finds a little rhythm and than it just gets muddled and dumb. Whenever it's anything with the bill it just gets very sloppy with montages. And bringing in all the friends at the end from the first is nostalgic and just feels lazy and sloppy. Witherspoon is great in this and the one consistently good thing. She, like her character doesn't let a beneath her script get her down. Field isn't bad as the villian. Man the one staff member was so ridiculusly unlikeable at first. Also, it's weird how this assumes it's viewers already know a thing or two about politics and procedures before watching it. Committees, rules, exceptions, procedures are never really explained and I can imagine it's hard to follow. But for better or worse it dumbs it down so much it "kind of" doesn't matter in getting things passed. This is such a letdown but also it's such easy going mindless viewership it's hard to get upset either. Skip It still and stick to the amazing first and only.
