Critics Consensus

Legend of the Guardians' dark tone and dazzling visuals are to be admired, even if they're ultimately let down by a story that never lives up to its full potential.

With jeopardy at almost every turn, this is certainly no movie for toddlers. Go to Full Review

The stars of this computerised epic are the Design and Art departments, who provide stunning landscapes, caves and kingdoms, and whose 3D magic is genuinely thrilling. Go to Full Review

Once again, Snyder backs a project more about visual presentation than storytelling, a trend that’s getting old for those waiting for the director to turn out a film worthy of his evident talent. Go to Full Review

Brendan K @Bkeller25 6d An animation marvel visually, even 15 years later. Great voice acting and has plenty of amusing moments. My only issue with the film is that its very brisk pace can feel overwhelming. It doesn't have many moments to breathe, which on one hand helps keep the film feel exciting, but some parts I wish were more developed (especially learning to fly). I can see kids being confused at times. The movie is only about an hour and a half long, which is atypical for Snyder. It's also his only movie that isn't PG-13 or R. It's a shame we never got a sequel because overall I had a great time with this one. The visuals and cinematography are the best part. See more Sebastian Teody G Sep 13 will forever be one of my favourite movies. See more Taylor D Aug 17 I enjoyed the movie and wish they would make another. My kids really enjoyed it as well. My oldest read the books and said they did a good job of staying along the story line. The animations were phenomenal and actually left us wanting to learn about owls. The series definitely needs to be completed. See more Read all reviews
