Critics Consensus

Life is just thrilling, well-acted, and capably filmed enough to overcome an overall inability to add new wrinkles to the trapped-in-space genre.

J. R. Jones Chicago Reader This sci-fi shocker sticks closely to the Alien playbook, down to the intimately acquainted, flatly characterized crew and the scenes of chaos, panic, and overlapping dialogue. Mar 26, 2020 Full Review Kristen Lopez Culturess It's familiar comfort food for those in need of gory goodness. Nov 20, 2017 Full Review Valerie Complex Affinity Magazine When compared to the cast of Alien, the ISS team isn't well-textured, developed, or likable. Rated: 2/5 Jun 10, 2017 Full Review Yasser Medina Cinefilia A dull and predictable science-fiction movie. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 5/10 Aug 13, 2024 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies I’m sure some of its logic could be picked apart if you’re into that kind of thing, but I enjoyed it as a taut, white-knuckle space thriller that looks great and absolutely nails it’s ending. That’s enough for me. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 23, 2022 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Aside from a few nerve-racking moments and, generally, professional production values, the film's derivative quality and deficient innovations create a run-of-the-mill outcome. casey W Coming from someone who isn’t keen on most sci-fi films, I thought this film was pretty good. The story was strong and unpredictable in comparison to other alien films. The crew were likeable and gave good performances all round. The film itself is shot well and captures some visually-beautiful scenes of space. I can’t say I agree with the negative reviews for this film. Would recommend to watch. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/30/24 Full Review Jakob F An atmospheric, Alien-esque cosmic-horror, Life succeeds with flying colors in grounding it’s far-fetched premise with enough real sounding/looking science to hook and reel you in, all as gruesome twists and gripping uncertainties duel for maximum potency, with occasional poetic quotes and emotional catharses to keep the meaning and stakes afloat in this downward spiral. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/29/24 Full Review Juan C Good cast but nothing new The same old story of an alien lifeform who becomes a menace for humanity, and the people who has to stop it. At least for me, was a waste of time Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/29/24 Full Review Marcus E Really liked this. It has great sci fi and horror aspects. Good cast but kind of stupid characters. I just love creature flicks and this creature worked for me. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/28/24 Full Review László R Excellent sets, breathtaking visuals, a Chernobyls' worth of acting power completely wasted on a script that is uncomprehensively dumb. I saw many people liken the film to Alien, rightfully so as it is esentially the same thing bar one itsy bitsy but ever so crucial little tiny detail. The cast of Alien, whom by all means are esentially truckers in space handle the situation better and make more coherent and logical decision (not to mention the mole on board) then then highly trained and educated ISS astronauts, most of them scientists and engineers. It's the sort of unreasonable storytelling that can ruin a film from the first incident and instead of getting the viewer thrilled or emotional it just makes them shake their heads in disbelief, esentially spoiling what would be a completely fine film. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/25/24 Full Review Char T Personally enjoyed the film. A solid thriller sci-fi that keeps you at the edge of your seat. Very good casting, well shot visuals, well put together. And a great twist you didn't see coming. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/21/24 Full Review Read all reviews
