Critics Consensus

Life is just thrilling, well-acted, and capably filmed enough to overcome an overall inability to add new wrinkles to the trapped-in-space genre.

J. R. Jones Chicago Reader This sci-fi shocker sticks closely to the Alien playbook, down to the intimately acquainted, flatly characterized crew and the scenes of chaos, panic, and overlapping dialogue. Mar 26, 2020 Full Review Kristen Lopez Culturess It's familiar comfort food for those in need of gory goodness. Nov 20, 2017 Full Review Valerie Complex Affinity Magazine When compared to the cast of Alien, the ISS team isn't well-textured, developed, or likable. Rated: 2/5 Jun 10, 2017 Full Review Yasser Medina Cinefilia A dull and predictable science-fiction movie. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 5/10 Aug 13, 2024 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies I’m sure some of its logic could be picked apart if you’re into that kind of thing, but I enjoyed it as a taut, white-knuckle space thriller that looks great and absolutely nails it’s ending. That’s enough for me. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 23, 2022 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Aside from a few nerve-racking moments and, generally, professional production values, the film's derivative quality and deficient innovations create a run-of-the-mill outcome. Steven Y Not perfect by any means, but this is a fresh and exciting tilt into a crowded genre that genuinely does a few things unexpected. It's got a great cast and a captivating premise. For reasons I can't share in the review, this'll likely be a film you reference for years because it takes some brave swings and - generally - I think it hits most balls out of the park. Of course it's not a classic, nor is it poignant, nor making any great statement of commentary. But as a contained narrative around encountering a complex and adaptable extraterrestrial life-form, it's fabulous. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/25 Full Review thefun f It is the real Alien movie that would possibly happen in our time, on the reallistic technological point of view. Humanity does not navigate from mining planets at years light constellations far away, of thousands of tons. Like Nostromo, BUT we have space stations orbiting arround the Earth like the far more modest ISS. With the finance help of many countries as the concept of a Nostromo type vessel would be in terms of financing and other technical features only posible in sci-fi. The alien organism, like in the movie, would far likelly be mono or few poly-cellular one instead of a complex organism with complete organs like the alien creature. That is what makes the translation of the alien movie concept to one that could be feasible and happen from the technological side of wiew of our time. You may then bellieve or not that this organism would be able to grow as fast as It does in the movie. Which i dont bellieve It would be posible. But that is the part that we leave for the science fiction that makes It ejoyable, apart from the great casting and solid performances. Wonderfull movie, an instant classic. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/08/25 Full Review Audience Member I don't normally watch alien movies (so I can't compare the movie with others) but I thought it was well done. Especially the ending. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/27/24 Full Review At Home w Just a sad movie with no fun in it. Like this movie sucked LIFE out of me. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/22/24 Full Review Paul W High-quality science fiction with great actors. Great special effects for the alien named Calvin.
