Critics Consensus

Life is just thrilling, well-acted, and capably filmed enough to overcome an overall inability to add new wrinkles to the trapped-in-space genre.

J. R. Jones Chicago Reader This sci-fi shocker sticks closely to the Alien playbook, down to the intimately acquainted, flatly characterized crew and the scenes of chaos, panic, and overlapping dialogue. Mar 26, 2020 Full Review Kristen Lopez Culturess It's familiar comfort food for those in need of gory goodness. Nov 20, 2017 Full Review Valerie Complex Affinity Magazine When compared to the cast of Alien, the ISS team isn't well-textured, developed, or likable. Pedro Henrique C Life (2017) It's a poorly made copy of "Alien" this movie is very bad in every aspect; Direction, cast, script and performances. When someone dies by the alien the characters don't express any emotion of sadness or panic, the final scene is a total disappointment. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/09/25 Full Review Charlotte C It was OK. Some thrilling scenes but just way too predictable to really make an impact. I started laughing at the end because it was so obvious and predictable. I am shocked that other reviewers thought it was a “twist”. Usually a plot twist requires some element of surprise… Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/29/25 Full Review Alfred Junior Karabo T This made me be on the edge of my seat as I was watching it and I absolutely recommend it Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/17/25 Full Review Nick K The crew on this movie are so stupid, You're cheering for the alien. They all deserve to meet their end. These scientists make the ones from Aliens look like geniuses. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/13/25 Full Review Peter F On the plus side, visuals are good and rarely has a spaceship felt so real and functional. Acting is decent too. On the negative, the creators of this took an interesting premise, with philosophical undertones even — and then proceeded to not use it in any way. Apparently they feared that any actual thought would have deterred audiences. Anyway the result is that viewers are left with a decently executed Alien-clone, which is perfectly fine, it’s just that one feels a bit cheated by the title and its fist minutes. Also, these days I think audiences are used to a few narrative tweaks in movies — knowing after 10 minutes that okay, this entire movie will be about a crew fighting a deadly alien (and being right) does not help with creating tension. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/24/25 Full Review Nick E. Life doesn’t necessarily break new ground, but it does have a great twist at the end. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/17/25 Full Review Read all reviews
