David Jenkins Time Out This ill-disciplined saga about a moneyed British-Asian family coming to terms with the death of a matriarch should really have been called 'Life Goes On and On and On and On...'. Rated: 1/5 Feb 10, 2012 Full Review Patrick Peters Empire Magazine The acting isn't always up to scratch but Datta's highbrow approach to grief makes for cerebral viewing and there's plenty of pathos too. A touching, thoughtful film. Rated: 3/5 Mar 7, 2011 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member This film beautifully represents the cultural mishmash which the British-Bengali community live with and are befuddled by. Plenty of room for introspection for the audience. But finally a film that puts the Bengali community based in London in view for the world to see. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Mike M Sometimes you just have to go: oh dear. This time- and continent-hopping drama from writer-director Datta aims high - it's a contemporary reworking of "King Lear", with asides on the effects of Partition on an entire generation of Anglo-Asians - yet is sunk more or less comprehensively by leaden pacing, shaky performances and on-the-nose dialogue... A series of swoony songs - words by Rabindranath Tagore, music by Javed Akhtar - seek to distract us from the fact it isn't going anywhere in a hurry; the soundtrack CD may be worth more than the DVD.
