The turning point between the '60s and '70s is my favorite era-a contradictory pivot sometimes called Hippie Modernism. Go to Full Review

Thematically the closest Fulci got to his peer Argento. Colorful and wild, with orgies, LSD freakouts and painting-by-knife-throwing. The visuals are Fulci's most impressive. Go to Full Review

The second of [Lucio Fulci's] gialli, and perhaps the most exemplary among the four. Go to Full Review

An absolutely astringent vision of a reptilian world, where even reveries function not as escape but as blueprints for murder Go to Full Review

Hector I Sep 20 Carole Hammond is the daughter of renowned lawyer Edmond Brighton, who is running for election. She is also married to Frank, a young lawyer who works in her father-in-law's office. She seems to lead a quiet, monotonous life, although she is obsessed with the beautiful Julia Durer, a neighbor who leads a dissolute life. During a session with her psychoanalyst, Carole recounts that she dreamed of killing Julia. That same day, Julia is found dead, exactly as in her dream. This murder triggers an investigation that leaves the police skeptical. Who could possibly want to harm her? Especially since Edmond has received a phone call attempting to blackmail him. We follow this investigation into a very bourgeois London family on whom misfortune befalls. The misfortune here is represented by hippies and their lifestyle. Everything seems to be falling apart for poor Carole, who, in addition to seeing her nightmares come true, is being pursued by two hippies who seem to want to harm her. Even more dreamlike and psychedelic than his first film, The Venom of Fear benefits from truly enjoyable staging. Fulchi, as an Italian director of the 1960s and 1970s, is still influenced by Hitchcock, but also by spaghetti westerns, which are never far away. Argento is the screenwriter of the film Once Upon a Time in the West! Here we find the atmosphere of London in the late 1960s, between the rigidity of its bourgeoisie and the arrival of the 1970s. The shots and architecture are more prominent here than in his first film. There are some superb and terrifying scenes, notably in the clinic (my God, the foxes...) and the church. Carriole's dreams are also terrifying. I really like how a psychedelic atmosphere can be disturbing, a bit like a bad trip. The actors are quite memorable, especially Jean Sorel, who is ultra-classy, the French equivalent of Robert Redford! On the other hand, why shoot a film in Italian that takes place in London with English roles? Between 3.5 and 4. Didn't quite expect so much similarity to the noir genre, this is very much a hardboiled detective story wrapped up with some horror/gore imagery and a topping of Freudianism. Very stylish, fantastic Ennio Morricone score and keeps you guessing about the killer to the very end. See more júlio a 04/11/2021 Um giallo clássico.
