Derek Malcolm London Evening Standard It is clearly well-researched but not made with La Haine's flair. Rated: 3/5 Apr 19, 2013 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian The movie doesn't delve too deeply into the mentality of Legorjus or indeed anyone else, but it's a tense, involving tale of France's forgotten imperial trauma. Rated: 3/5 Apr 18, 2013 Full Review Jack Jones Little White Lies harrowing and gripping account of a horrifying true story. Rated: 4/5 Apr 18, 2013 Full Review Stefan Pape CineVue An intelligent and slow-burning production, devised in such a way that the audience doesn't really take a side. Rated: 4/5 Feb 13, 2019 Full Review MaryAnn Johanson Flick Filosopher Sporadically exciting French action drama about a 1988 hostage crisis drags more often than it should. Aug 27, 2013 Full Review Philip French Observer (UK) An intelligent political drama, part thriller, part war movie, and informed by something of the anger against established authority that fuelled La Haine. Liam D Director, Writer and Star Mathieu Kassovitz (Gothika, Birthday Girl) does a great job at tackling an hallowing true story Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/26/24 Full Review Audience Member Actual, and interesting french version of military, far from what we are used to, great job Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review william k Straightforward, anti-imperialist war drama with a clear message; conventionally staged, but quite effective for the intended purpose. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A well directed movie about an important subject most of us had never heard of. However, the movie drags too much, and could easily been half an hour shorter. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Great account of this complex story. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member The intensity is always getting stronger and stronger as we understand how and why everything happened. Great acting, not too much "drama" music to guide our emotions, and a close and intimate view of France's way to deal with political issues concerning its own country. I appreciated that Kassovitz didn't fall into the trapped of the setting, amazing sets but we still feel like we're going to get trap into something big, and all just seems like a beautiful jail. To people wanting to know a bit more about New Caledonia than the white sanded beach, I would recommend this film. Not only because of the brilliant way it talks about such a complicated political issue at that period of time but also the story around the movie it-self really is interesting and I recommend to watch the Making-Off as well.
