When the Spanish Civil War breaks out in 1936, over 3,000 children from communist families are given safe haven in Moscow, where a heroes' welcome and a comfortable boarding house await. Then, when Hitler invades Russia, the children are sent to forced labor camps in Siberia. It's 1956 before they're offered a chance to return to Franco's Spain, to families they barely remember. Now they're in their old age, and their recollections of trauma are the backbone of this outraged documentary.
