jrnation5788 Darkly comedic, weird and well paced. This mid 90's indie thriller is solidly written and acted by all involved, particularly the underrated Gil Bellows. Thoroughly entertaining from start to finish. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/12/23 Full Review Audience Member this is my favorite Renee Zellweger film. it is the type of movie i loved in middle school & still love today maybe more than i did back in 1994 when i first watched it. super irresponsible anti heroes w a kind heart & violent streak when pushed but only in pursuit of a freedom that doesn't exist was a great character to market to the early 90s rebel kid audience. doomed to fail in the long run but fighting the whole way through right to the very end is my version of the outlaw country generation. the *if you're going to die then die good* energy is a great way to view what that culture eventually became which is one that romanticizes a freedom that doesn't exist but they will still fight for it right to the very end no matter how doomed or absurd their version of freedom is. it is tragic & very human. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member I don't know how or why but this movie works. My theory, and it's what I think a lot of 90's movies did right, is they didn't try and outdo or fix the cheesiness of the movies of the 70's and 80's but rather just embraced it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Rich S It's from movies like these that few flowers are planted and actually blossom. Renée Zellweger is the flower of "Love and a .45" and she is a wild dandelion performing with a calculated recklessness. She's proof that you can make it to the top after starting at the very bottom. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/02/21 Full Review Audience Member Great 90's movie. Do yourself a favor, get some beers and have a double bill with this film and True Romance. I was really in love with Renee Zellweger and Patricia Arquette as a young man but now i realize i love hot white trash girls! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Love and a .45 may not be the best movie in my collection but it's near the top. Excellent writing and plot coupled with dark humor and blended with one of the best movie soundtracks of all time. Gil Bellows and Rene Zellweger are one of the hottest outlaw couples you'll ever see. Offbeat and original, Love and a .45 has been one of my favorite movies for a few decades. Disturbing, funny and a bit greasy. Quite possibly one of the best opening scenes ever. I was captivated within the first thirty seconds on first viewing. Notice the fake looking backgrounds during driving scenes, deliberately done to display Starlene's fantasy of being in the movies. The director's commentary is worth watching the second time around. I still can't believe this writer/director wasn't launched to instant fame after this movie. Brilliant directing, acting, writing and editing. This one is gritty and trippy. They don't make movies like this anymore. "I'm going on a green light daddy-o" **Adult situations and drug use (but in a good example of why you shouldn't do drugs kind of way). Brief nudity. Not for children. ****The movie info listed on this site is incorrect. Watty never shoots Billy, he sticks a fork in his neck. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Read all reviews
