In this unflinching documentary, formerly homeless ex-crack addict Diane Hazzard struggles to prove, both to her six children and to the child welfare bureaucracy of New York City, that she has cleaned up her act and is a fit and caring mother. Meanwhile, Diane's HIV-positive daughter, Love Hinson, has just given birth to her own son, Donyaeh, and struggles to balance the needs of her child with both her own poor mental and physical health and her fractious relationship with her mother, Diane.
