william k A study of post-war loss and decay is presented in poetic and atmospheric images, all in good artistic taste, but without any direct political stance. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Belle Époque but not as funny or interesting. The Young Maids of Wilko is, at times, a slightly interesting film with lovely cinematography but it never becomes intriguing or captivating. The film follows this man as he meets these women who at times had some romantic interest with him. However, the women are not interesting characters and you sometimes become confused as to who is who. The script is boringly written and there isn't much character development at all. You learn some history about Wiktor and his time in the war at Ukraine and how much he has missed his time at Wilko but that's pretty much it. His relationships with these women don't change and nothing that significant happens in the film. The Spanish film Belle Époque does a much better job with a similar plot line where this man falls in love with all these sisters and they become jealous of one another and the writing is far more funny and witty. However, in this film, it is very much more serious and it isn't near as captivating or well-written. I saw Wajda's other Best Foreign Language Oscar nominated film Katyń before this which I was not impressed by and I have similar views in regards to this film. However, this film was more cohesive than Katyń. Like Katyń, this film was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Picture Oscar but lost to The Tin Drum. I haven't seen the winner or the other nominees Wilko was nominated with so I can't say if it was better than the other nominees. Overall, a beautifully filmed movie that is pretty dull and dreary. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Well, this was pretty good, but I don't think I was really into it, compared to the other Wajda films I've seen. And to be honest, I watched it a couple hours before I had to return it, and my roommate was in the main room with me talking to his friend for about 30 minutes of it, so I couldn't focus entirely (though it had subtitles, so I wasn't extremely distracted). But regardless, it had a pretty good opening, and there were some great scenes. I particularly loved the scene where Wiktor goes to the grave of the deceased girl. I like that we never really find out how she died and that he never really bothers to ask. While a couple of the girls had their own characteristics, I did actually have trouble distinguishing some of them from each other. Anyway, I keep saying with a lot of Wajda's films that I don't really follow the politics involved, and yet this film, the least political of them I've seen, I don't like it as much as the other ones. Still, it was wonderfully photographed, the acting was great, and it did actually have a nice pace to it. I'm trying to see as many of Wajda's films I can get a hold of, so I'm glad I finally saw this one. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the best movies I have ever seen. x Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Å»adne recenzje ani notki nie opiszą piękna jakie tworzy opowiadanie Iwaszkiewicza w ekranizacji Wajdy z muzyką Szymanowskiego. Genialny film, obezwładniający w sile subtelnych dźwięków każdej sceny. Dzieło kompletne. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member One of my favourite movies ever...
