What to Know

Critics Consensus

It initially appears to be a promising destination for horror fans, but Malasaña 32 ultimately houses little more than repackaged ghost story clichés.

Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News Given the high quality of horror films of late, this one doesn't stand out, except for a twist ending that needed to be better explained. Rated: 2/4 Oct 29, 2020 Full Review Nick Allen RogerEbert.com When it comes to the tried-and-true horror, the movie falls back on the obvious, and later, the offensive. Rated: 2/4 Oct 22, 2020 Full Review Meagan Navarro Bloody Disgusting A paint-by-numbers haunter that retreads familiar ground. It's a thinly written story with even more frustratingly bland characters. Rated: 2.5/5 Oct 21, 2020 Full Review Erick Estrada Cinegarage Proves that Spanish cinema is finding its own voice, inspiration, and faces. [Full review in Spanish] Jul 12, 2023 Full Review DarkSkyLady Nightmarish Conjurings While some moments are suspenseful, the film employs too many jump scares that are so common now rather than building the suspense and tension through imagery and sound effects. Jul 2, 2021 Full Review Jonathan DeHaan Nightmare on Film Street Sure, there are some questionable choices made in it's chaotic finale but 32 Malasana Street has some of the best-built scares of 2020! Roberto L It wasn't terrible. I got through the whole thing. I don't necessarily ever need to see it again. The plot was OK, the acting was good, there was no sex and little cursing. The DVD subtitles were a bit messed up compared to what they were saying as if auto-translated. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/28/23 Full Review FunkoPasion L They are screamers, literally, the movie is just screamers, a meaningless plot and a stupid ending. They kill a spectrum, throwing it off the balcony. THAT!? There are some other good screamer but it is terrible. I'd rather see Slenderman (which is bad) five times than see this filthy one more time. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/29/23 Full Review Late R The atmosphere and overall tone is pretty creepy at times, but I couldn't help but feel that the makers behind ‘Malasaña 32' gathered together all their favourite ideas from other horror films and then came up with a flimsy plot with thin characters as an excuse to use them. Consequently, it's difficult to care about anyone and it all feels very familiar, doing nothing to be original or stand out. If you're just after your horror-fix, this generic (but well-made) flick might do the trick.
