Matt Mahler PopMatters Oct 28
In the newly-restored surreal gothic horror film Malpertuis, Orson Welles gives a memorably cantankerous performance as a dying man bequeathing his estate to people he loathes. Go to Full Review

This is a rich-hued, lavishly designed and very bawdy film with a cheeky sense of humour and insinuating moods stretching from burgeoning sexuality to existential angst. Go to Full Review

Laura S Oct 1 Weird as hell, but pretty interesting See more 06/04/2018 Beautiful work of Art a dreamlike voyage beyond time and space--Mesmerizing and Unique!! See more 06/04/2018 Harry Kumel's fantasy is certainly one of the strangest movies ever made, an entertaining oddity that must be seen to be believed. See more 06/04/2018 Un veritable film d'ambiance, pesant et etrange ! Oo). See more 06/04/2018 One of the weirdest and best haunted house movies out there. Think Hammer Horror as realized by Wojciech Has. It also has Orson Welles in it. See more 06/04/2018 A sailor is taken to Malpertuis, a strange estate ruled by a sickly Cassavius (Orson Welles) from his bed; when Cassavius dies, the odd provisions of his will prod the bizarre residents into conflict. A collection of sometimes brilliant scenes that appears to be building to some kind of mystical revelation, but always pulls back just when things start to get interesting, and ends with a frustrating "dream inside a dream" climax. It was a flop that cut Harry Kumel's promising directorial career short; he claims that the problem was editorial butchering by United Artists, but the 120 minute director's cut is unsatisfying on its own.
