During World War II, British photo-reconnaissance pilot Peter (Alec Guinness) discovers that the Italians are planning a secret invasion of Malta, a strategically important island nation critical to keeping the Allied supply lines open. Though they have few resources left, Peter and his commanding officer, Frank (Jack Hawkins), resolve to fight off the enemy and save the island. At the same time, Peter struggles to keep his relationship with a local girl from falling apart.

Jim P You may not like war movies, but this one shows the struggles of the ordinary people. Malta was practically besieged, so you will see plenty of courage and bravery here. Well worth a look. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/29/24 Full Review ashley h Malta Story is a decent film. It is about the island of Malta is attacked by the Germans but defended by the British. Alec Guinness and Jack Hawkins give good performances. The screenplay is slow in places. Brian Desmond Hurst did an alright job directing this movie. That made it desirable real estate. Malta's been occupied by every conqueror operating in that area, most recently the British during World War II. At that time that island with its air and naval base was doing a lot of damage to Erwin Rommel's supply route in North Africa. With unbelievable courage the British garrison held on for over two years and was never really out of harm's way until the Allies took Sicily--A Mix of Cinematic Journalism and Romantic Love in a Threatened Little Island!!
