Critics Consensus

Well-intentioned but overall misjudged, Man Down makes an unfortunately muddled attempt to mine thoughtful drama out of modern warfare's emotional wreckage.

Wendy Ide Observer (UK) Shia LaBeouf delivers a superb performance in a film that is otherwise misjudged on almost every level. Rated: 2/5 Apr 2, 2017 Full Review Jack Godwin Little White Lies Once the smoke clears and the shock of its twists wears off, Man Down is even worse than it originally appears. Rated: 1/5 Mar 31, 2017 Full Review Ed Potton Times (UK) An uncomfortable blend of war movie, family drama and dystopian sci-fi. Rated: 2/5 Mar 30, 2017 Full Review Steven Prokopy Third Coast Review Something about LaBeouf's work here pulled me through every aspect of this wildly uneven film. Apr 28, 2020 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com What's unfortunate is how the film's complex themes become casualties of the film's ultimate ineptitude. Rated: 1/5 Oct 3, 2019 Full Review Preston Barta Fresh Fiction MAN DOWN attempts to cram a murky mass of plot and emotion into an hour-and-a-half of screen time. In the process, little of its meaning survived, and we're left with an appalling film. Rated: D Mar 30, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Mark J Absolutely superb! Keeps you on the edge of your seat never knowing what's going to happen next, a really refreshing movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/25/24 Full Review Steve H So many movies are predictable and rehash the same story line. I was taken in by the two worlds of this story. The "real world" and the PTSD induced world of the main character. Growing up, I have known local veterans who were "shell Shocked." We all thought they were just crazy. This movie gave me a perspective that they may be reliving their battles every day. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/22/23 Full Review Barb T I have no idea why this has gotten bad reviews. What a sad but loving tribute to our veterans and an extremely realistic look at PTSD from a traumatic war time experience. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/05/23 Full Review Dede R Having seen up close and personal the nightmare of trying to keep your humanity after war, this movie showcases the struggle of everyday life for veterans. Experiencing this through the eyes of Vietnam and Iraq war veterans, watch this movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/15/23 Full Review Tweb This movie is way overhated. The acting is good, and so is the twist. I do get the criticisms, but I enjoyed the movie, and it's message. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/14/23 Full Review Kurt K This is not a fun movie; its goal appears to be to give an understanding of what some verts are going through to those that can not possibly understand. I am curious what actual vets think? Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
