Awful movie. The tone is all over the place. The plot is so unbelievable, it plays like a dark comedy. Maybe the critics enjoyed the cinematography or costume design, because the high rating can't be due to the story, plot and acting.

I love a good mystery. This one unfolded slowly with an unexpected ending. Not the ending I might have hoped for, but clearly not formulaic. So it held my interest and was entertaining.

A pretty color pallet and solid cinematography helped this slow-burn of a thriller move into the mid-(70s). Pepe Serna as Sheriff Paul Del Moral became more likeable as the movie progressed. Ayako Fujitani was a little bland at first, but eventually came into her own. Many reveals throughout, some more satisfying than others. A pleasantly shocking twist. Oh, and there are turtles.
