Films like Judgment at Nuremberg began with the assumption that morality could be upheld and responsibility assigned. The Man in the Glass Booth is an infinitely more despairing work. Go to Full Review

Offering Schell, a fine actor, Oscar recognition is perhaps a bit too generous, but there's undeniable commitment to observed, even when Hiller forgets he's making a picture, not a play. Go to Full Review

The dramatic sins committed in The Man in the Glass Booth are formidable on their own, but coupled with the creator's specious arguments about the world situation, the film becomes intolerable. Go to Full Review

Ed . Aug 29 Is "The Man" a fisherman pretending to be a terrorist or is he a terrorist pretending to be a fisherman? I may be confusing this film with Jaws and The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3, or I just might be conveying the basic premise of this interesting film. See more Alec B Feb 9 Its an interesting concept but this probably works better on stage. The overt theatrically of the narrative and performances are often exhausting. See more @Cameron11 10/17/2021 A really boring film about a supposed Nazi Colonel that is kidnapped by Israeli agents and smuggled into Israel to be put on trial. I thought the synopsis of this film was really intriguing but the script, cinematography and pacing is so dull and agonisingly tedious. The start of the film shows Arthur Goldman talking on and on and on about The Holocaust and how people are out to get him. Then he throws his shoes over the balcony and passes out drunk and has a party with these women, all the while talking in these long nonsensical monologues regarding Jews, The Holocaust etc. This whole portion of the film was such a bore but I still believed we would get to know more about the character as the film went on. Goldman is then kidnapped by Mossad in broad daylight New York City (?!) and is taken to Israel. His conversations with the prosecution and the doctor in his jail cell were mildly interesting. However, the case itself is pretty underwhelming. We hear testimonials from Holocaust survivors with Goldman or Luft making outrageous comments in between. The ending of the film is pretty abrupt and, again, disappointing. We are given no explanation as to why Goldman went to these outrageous measures to make himself look like a Nazi war criminal. His backstory is alluded to at the start of the film with visions of his father, but again there is no explanation of his backstory, if he was in a concentration camp or how he gained such a huge sum of wealth. Maximilian Schell was nominated for Best Actor for his role and, while he played the part well in some scenes, I thought most of the scenes were overacted which could also be partly blamed on the tedious script. His performance was not as good as the other three I've seen from that category (Whitmore, Pacino & Nicholson). Overall, a boring and tedious film with some engaging scenes, but these are few and far between. See more steve d 07/16/2020 The acting is good but it feels like it would work better on the stage.
