It’s a film that isn’t afraid to be bold and shocking, heartbreaking and infuriating in equal measure. Manas emphasises the importance of speaking up and breaking the cycle, shining a spotlight on the bravery it takes to do so through the eyes of a child.

Absolutely remarkable production value adds to this powerful coming of age story of a young woman who finds the courage to stand up to generational patriarchal abuse. The incredible direction of Marianna Brennard brings a full-throated story detailing the plight of not only the young women of the Marajó Islands of Brazil, but shines a spotlight on systemic abuse everywhere.
