But the vampires have not fed on the people of the village for a very long time. Frank S. Nugent New York Times Like most good ghost stories, it's a lot of fun, even though you don't believe a word of it. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 8, 2006 Full Review Geoff Andrew Time Out A real touch of class is present in James Wong Howe's magnificent photography, not to mention Carol Borland's stunning apparition as a vampire. Audience Member A rather silly but fun play on the Dracula story which takes an unexpected turn at the end. Don't expect much Lugosi in this but Lionel Barrymore and Lionel Atwill as would be vampire hunters are both excellent. It's not a great film but anybody who enjoys this era of Hollywood should be amused by it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/16/24 Full Review Robert H The only thing I can say of this movie; it ends with a thud; a disappointing thud. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 10/30/22 Full Review robert p Vampires are alot more visual and bloody now-a-days but back then people were just experimenting making movies to see what flies or what sticks, obviously this movie was bad from the beginning to the end. Bela Legosi was only on the screen for about 10 minutes (if we had the longer movie, the way it was shot - 20 minutes longer and lost) it might have made more difference but anyway this movie was boring to say the least, and that's *my* opinion!! Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A fun early vampire flick with a great cast and atmospheric look. Well worth an hour’s viewing time! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/02/21 Full Review Joel C An early addition to the vampire genre that has a twist which doesn't become clear until the end. I've never really been a big fan of gothic horror, the settings are unrelatable to me, but there is something creepy about atmosphere that comes with it. Browning always creates nice work with painting-like cinematography and he gets the best out of his cast. Some of the creatures that creep and crawl and fly are the stuff that comedy mocks but for the time it does the job. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/22/21 Full Review joe m OK-ish vampire flick that is pretty much a reprise of "Dracula", just not as good. The only element of "Mark of the Vampire" that brought it from 1 1/2 stars to 2 stars was the twist at the end. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews
