Lovia Gyarkye Hollywood Reporter Mars One revels in the lives of its characters, taking a leisurely and scenic route to understanding their dreams and realities. Jan 10, 2023 Full Review Jude Dry indieWire Mars One nimbly centers each of its four main characters, elegantly weaving their stories into a poignant familial whole. All relatable, flawed, and charming in their own ways, they antagonize each other without anyone losing their humanity. Rated: A- Jan 6, 2023 Full Review Carlos Aguilar TheWrap By slowly introducing each of the four family members’ individual concerns in a mostly seamless manner, Martins immerses the viewer in his deftly written, multifaceted story of interpersonal growth. Jan 6, 2023 Full Review Filipe Freitas Always Good Movies It’s the sincerity of the approach that keeps the film afloat at an early stage, but Mars One becomes more artificial, even melodramatic towards the end. Rated: 3/5 Feb 16, 2023 Full Review Wade Major FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) A beautiful family portrait. Jan 18, 2023 Full Review Barbara Shulgasser Common Sense Media It can be difficult to know what's going on as we watch these faces while we hear unexplained events going on around them. This is a good way of keeping a film's budget down, but not a good way of making things clear to the audience. Rated: 2/5 Jan 11, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Daniel G Unsurprisingly it was a potential Brazilian nominee for Best Foreign Film at the Oscars 2023. Very realistic dialogues and acting, tender story and perfect watching during Easter, as it was a bit of the story of a rebirth of a family and its members. As the focus was really on their lives, one must discount the somewhat shallow treatment of the other characters or details of how the daughter actually was able to make money to afford her life and her gifts to her brother. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/10/24 Full Review Guilherme D Quando o cinema vira um panfleto político. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/27/23 Full Review Grace J Moving, character driven and beautifully shot. AND a cute queer love story. Enjoyed it from start to finish. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Shock Therapy R Beautiful story. Beautiful family. (I wish I had had this one.) I recommend the movie because other viewers may see something brilliant that I did not see. However for me, the story lacked the plot crisis. It was instructive on how to be. Maybe that should be the headline here. Maybe I'm too cynical. But the dreamy notion of ‘working something out' suggested complacency, despite the beautiful merging of family behind daunting life circumstances. So the relatively minor crises were handled. What about the next bigger one? In other words, is it okay to be merely exist in harmony? Is there something far more consequential and dangerous beside rote religious thoughts and practices and every day living? Maybe this review should be disregarded because of its inherent apocalypticism. But the splinter in my brain says that this movie should be enjoyed, but not celebrated as a fete, a star, or even some kind of stellar arrival… you know, like movies are supposed to do. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Robin K What a great illustration of a variety of conflicts families struggle with today! Viewers of multiple backgrounds find commonality within the various roles featured within this film, from economic struggle, to finding courage to expand beyond traditional mindsets within family. Integrity is questioned and challenged as the characters deal with life's unfair situations. Highly recommend viewing as our society continues to learn from each other how to live in support of diversity among others and acceptance of the significant contribution it may bring.
