Phuong Le Guardian It simultaneously grounds the act of grieving in the real as well as the abstract. Rated: 4/5 Mar 9, 2021 Full Review Wesley Morris New York Times The characters are sketches filled in by good acting. Khaled's not telling a story about them so much as tapping, obliquely, into an oppressive national mood... Dec 13, 2018 Full Review Robert Abele Los Angeles Times Boldly homoerotic in its water-and-body-conscious imagery, "Martyr" is more of a formal, physical performance about grief and loss than a deep-dive into the inner lives of its handful of stricken characters. Nov 30, 2018 Full Review Rich Cline Shadows on the Wall It's an odd little film, but has a certain hypnotic effect. Rated: 3/5 Mar 18, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews

Lorenz L One of the most gripping, moving depictions of grief, loss, and love I have seen in any media. This is not a narrative film, and should be experienced with an open mind (warning to homophobes: there is an undeniable feeling of homoeroticism throughout; the viewer is asked to form his/her own opinion). Follow the bare-bones dialogue, but let the images wash over you, taking in the depths of colour, composition, and movement. I am amazed that this work of cinematic art came from Lebanon. I will seek-out more. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/28/24 Full Review Ty N A lot of screen time is wasted on scenes and details that are extraneous or irrelevant. The end result is an onerous trudge that undermines the messaging of the story. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/04/23 Full Review Read all reviews
