Mary (Debbie Reynolds) and Bob McKellaway (Barry Nelson) have been separated for almost a year and are about to finalize their divorce. But before Bob can sign the papers, his accountant insists he meet with Mary to sort out their taxes. Mary agrees to meet her soon-to-be ex-husband at his apartment, where a surprise snowstorm leaves her stranded. As the night wears on, Mary meets Bob's handsome actor neighbor (Michael Rennie) and begins to wonder if her marriage is really over.
