Meagan Navarro Bloody Disgusting It's not perfect and makes no attempts to disguise its influences, but this Raimi style spin on Satanic horror conjures up a devilishly fun midnight romp. Rated: 3/5 Jan 10, 2019 Full Review Anton Bitel Sight & Sound In the Evil Dead-style scenario that follows, Tjahjanto deftly flings all manner of witchcraft, voodoo and splatter just to see what will stick. The subtext may be shallow, but the blood runs deep, ensuring the viewer one hell of a crazy night. Oct 15, 2018 Full Review Dev Shea 1428 Elm While sometimes the effects can get a tiny bit hokey, it could have easily been remedied by showing less. That, however, did not take away from the film’s scariness. I had a lot of fun watching it and you will too. Sep 16, 2022 Full Review Andrew Heskins easternKicks.com An effective but disappointingly vapid 80s throwback demon horror from Timo Tjahjanto... Rated: 2.5/5 Sep 23, 2020 Full Review Daniel Goodwin HeyUGuys Clumpy, gore-laden, inglorious fun that's a structural sham, but gets by on frights and freaky demon monsters! MTDTY provides cracking comedy amongst the gunk, but the clumsy script, gawky dialogue and strained duration are hard to disregard. Rated: 3/5 Jun 5, 2019 Full Review Matt Donato Slashfilm May The Devil Take You might not rewrite the Necronomicon, but Tjahjanto's brand of possession thriller takes a life of its own through heavy-handed occult violence mixed with stellar performances and pulsating eyes peering between floorboards. T T It's the first Indonesian movie I watch. It's a good and solid effort at producing a horror movie. It's on the cheesy side, has a few plot holes, and other shortcomings, but that is to be expected of any B movie. Overall, I think the director and actors did a good job. It was entertaining and enjoyable. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/04/23 Full Review Audience Member I thought it was a good scary movie. Creepy and disturbing. Made me think twice about watching a movie like this again 😂 Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/27/22 Full Review mark b This was some Evil Dead-inspired Indonesian whackery. Where's Ash and his boom stick when you need him? Too bad they cancelled the Ash vs Evil Dead series because I can see the poor folks in Indonesia calling up Ash for help with their Deadite problem. I liked this. Didn't love it. It's way too long. Some of the scenes and acting are just too tropey and staged. But an Evil Dead-like gorefest in an Asian rural setting? Count me in. Apparently, creepy black hair isn't completely beholden to J-Horror. The devil woman in this has long black hair that reaches her knees, and Ring-like hair is featured throughout. And new rule: all horror titles must have a Malay name. Which do you prefer, "May the Devil Take You," or "Sebelum Iblis Menjemput." Give me horror titles that sound like they're in Latin any day, even if I have no freaking idea what it means. It didn't make a bit of difference for Impetigore -- I still don't know what that meant and I love that flick. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Liam D What The Hell Was That This horror is okay but it wasn't for me Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/21 Full Review Audience Member Get ready for the craziest Indonesia's Satanism Movie Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review william h B – This Indonesian demonic possession movie is full of demons, gore, vomit, pus, an exploding head, several torture scenes of bones being broken, possessed people, a little girl in danger, rummaging for a locket of hair by hand inside the stomach of a long-dead corpse, and a ripped-from-the-body beheading. These misfortunes happen to bad and good characters alike. Apparently, the Devil is not that choosy. The story concerns a middle-aged man who makes a Faustian pact with the devil for wealth, fame and power. He gets all those but only for a few years, and he has to sacrifice several wives to the Devil even for that. Then he comes down with a (nonexistent) disease that looks like the final stages of the plague and an advanced hemorrhagic fever. When he finally dies he leaves his decrepit estate to his one good daughter, á la King Lear, but she allows the man's latest wife, her greedy daughter, and two other loving children to inspect the mansion and see if it holds anything of value. Since the man had made his pact with the Devil in the mansion's basement, very bad things happen to the family. The acting, special and practical effects, basic story, and character development aren't bad, but the script/plot gets very confusing when we see another version of the pact ceremony that contradicts the first version. Which one are we to believe? Recommended only if there's nothing else of interest available to you. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews
