In the Evil Dead-style scenario that follows, Tjahjanto deftly flings all manner of witchcraft, voodoo and splatter just to see what will stick. The subtext may be shallow, but the blood runs deep, ensuring the viewer one hell of a crazy night.

While sometimes the effects can get a tiny bit hokey, it could have easily been remedied by showing less. That, however, did not take away from the film’s scariness. I had a lot of fun watching it and you will too.

Clumpy, gore-laden, inglorious fun that's a structural sham, but gets by on frights and freaky demon monsters! MTDTY provides cracking comedy amongst the gunk, but the clumsy script, gawky dialogue and strained duration are hard to disregard.

May The Devil Take You might not rewrite the Necronomicon, but Tjahjanto's brand of possession thriller takes a life of its own through heavy-handed occult violence mixed with stellar performances and pulsating eyes peering between floorboards.

A very boring, generic and derivative film. I quite liked some of the practical and cosmetic effects but in such a weak, poorly acted story its basically an amusement park ride themed on a better movie.

It's the first Indonesian movie I watch. It's a good and solid effort at producing a horror movie. It's on the cheesy side, has a few plot holes, and other shortcomings, but that is to be expected of any B movie. Overall, I think the director and actors did a good job. It was entertaining and enjoyable.

This was some Evil Dead-inspired Indonesian whackery. Where's Ash and his boom stick when you need him? Too bad they cancelled the Ash vs Evil Dead series because I can see the poor folks in Indonesia calling up Ash for help with their Deadite problem. I liked this. Didn't love it. It's way too long. Some of the scenes and acting are just too tropey and staged. But an Evil Dead-like gorefest in an Asian rural setting? Count me in. Apparently, creepy black hair isn't completely beholden to J-Horror. The devil woman in this has long black hair that reaches her knees, and Ring-like hair is featured throughout. And new rule: all horror titles must have a Malay name. Which do you prefer, "May the Devil Take You," or "Sebelum Iblis Menjemput." Give me horror titles that sound like they're in Latin any day, even if I have no freaking idea what it means. It didn't make a bit of difference for Impetigore -- I still don't know what that meant and I love that flick.
