Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh team up in "Mayday," a genre-bending, action-packed buddy comedy that flips the spy thriller on its head. When hotshot U.S. Navy pilot Lieutenant Troy "Assassin" Kelly (Reynolds) is sent on a top-secret mission into Russian territory at the height of the Cold War, the operation implodes, leaving him stranded behind enemy lines. Discovered by Nikolai Ustinov (Branagh), a gruff ex-KGB agent with a penchant for American culture, Troy thinks he's toast -- but could an unlikely alliance between the two lead to Troy's rescue and a bond neither saw coming?

Ryan Reynolds’ perma-Deadpool edge of slick sarcasm isn’t for me, but it’s put to great use in this Cold War buddy comedy from Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley (Dungeons and Dragons). Go to Full Review

The new Daley & Goldstein isn’t the most narratively audacious movie, but it’s a strong reminder that even a streaming comedy can look as good as any blockbuster Go to Full Review

It’s a compliment to call "Mayday" a latter-day "Top Gun" riff, because it satisfyingly meets the needs of that film’s core audience — delivering a buddy comedy, a road movie and an international adventure, with surprising heart. Go to Full Review

Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh bring charm and comic chemistry to this nostalgic Cold War adventure. Mayday borrows freely from ’80s action classics, but its brisk pace and playful spirit make the familiar formula an entertaining ride. Go to Full Review

When the film stops worrying about solving curses and simply allows Sally and Gillian to be together, it almost always gets better. [Full Review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

While the film includes some humorous exchanges and fun action set pieces, its lack of character depth makes it immediately forgettable. Go to Full Review

Nate M @RT97838123 3 hrs ago Great movie. One that you can watch over and over. See more Donald G @RT71663833 5 hrs ago ALL SPECIAL EFFECTS ARE REAL EXCEPT JET FIGHTER SCENES. Filmed on location in Hungary with thousands of extras, and of a quality deserving a theatrical release, the movie concerns a 1987 fighter pilot shot down over The USSR who meets a sympathetic ex-KGB officer and together they Escape Soviet Russia .. and pandemonium ensues! I really enjoyed this and it's up there among the top 2 deadpool movies with amazing quality in CGI and creative joke-writing. I think a lot of people are looking for a testosterone drenched action movie and just don't understand that it questions patriotism, but I got the tenor and rolled with it from the cabbage patch-dolls opening scene! See more Bill M @Ticaloon 6 hrs ago You see?! You DON'T need tons of cursing in order to make an outstanding film. They could have made this movie chock full of foul language, but they didn't. BRAVO AND THANK YOU!! Of course you just had to throw in an F-bomb at the very end to get your PG13 rating, but I forgive you. This film was just great. Fantastic excitement, hilarious moments, great fight scenes, and a heartfelt theme throughout the movie. Ryan Reynolds is a great actor, as is Kenneth Branagh. What great casting! The train sequence was funny, exciting, and stressful. I wish they would make more movies like this! See more B D @dunctyson 6 hrs ago Good streaming flick See more Moussa M @moussamazouzi 7 hrs ago One of the things I loved most was the camera work and direction. The camera moves above, below and around the characters, with really smooth transitions between locations. There are even shots where it goes through doors, windows and walls, and somehow it works really well with the movement. The wide shots and high angles also give you a great sense of where everything is instead of constantly cutting between action shots. And that Blackbird scene when Troy jumps out of the plane... wow. The way the camera follows him made it feel so real. That shot genuinely impressed me. I was having a great time for most of the first hour, but then Anna, Nikolai's daughter, showed up and there was one thing that really took me out of the movie. I honestly don't understand why we needed to know that Anna is into girls. It didn't add anything to the story for me, and I feel like the movie could've easily worked without it. See more Pamela B @RT52008016 7 hrs ago Hilarious and unexpected. Some really novel things here, not limited to the same old action slapstick or sarcastic humour. I liked seeing Ryan Reynolds in a weak non-hero type role. Made his humour more honest and endearing. My partner laughed the whole way through. Fun and entertaining. See more Read all reviews
