Audience Member Extremely low budget Indie about a teenager in love with an aged former porn star. While occasionally reminiscent of Napoleon Dynamite, "Meet Monica Velour" is much more serious, even in its dark humor. While it isn't a bad movie, it isn't particularly good either. The performance of Kim Cattrall is actually pretty good and a welcome change from her "Sex and the City" typecast she's been saddled with the past decade. Yeah, this film may not seem like much of a departure from the type of character she's been playing for a long time, but it did give her a chance to be more raw and serious. Definitely worth watching at least once. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Not a bad idea but fairly slow. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Meet Monica Velour: What a weird, contrived and ultimately sweet movie. Circumstances lead Tobe, a bad "Napoleon Dynamite" knockoff, to rural Indiana, where his vintage porn star crush now resides in a trailer. Yes, the premise is ridiculous, but Tobe's goofy likability and Kim Cattrall's spot-on portrait of a down-on-her-luck, washed up porn star is so jaw-droppingly good, and the film's last 20 minutes so charming, that it delivers the perfect happy ending. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Kim Catrall was really good but her story was rushed. The main character spoilt the film for me Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Philip Wilding Empire Magazine Beautifully acted, it's a tender love story with one or two belly laughs. Rated: 3/5 Jul 14, 2011 Full Review Rick Groen Globe and Mail Pretty good performance, awfully lame movie. Rated: 2/4 May 13, 2011 Full Review Linda Barnard Toronto Star Had first-time director Keith Bearden been as devoted to keeping Meet Monica Velour on track as he did to coming up with punderful porn flick names, he could have had a satisfying dark comedy on his hands. Rated: 2/4 May 12, 2011 Full Review Prairie Miller Long Island Press Cattrall does what she does best, pushing boundaries unapologetically. And there's not a hint of lewd intentions, but plenty of saucy satire surrounding US culture's sexual contradictions, in a geek's determined fantasy romance bypassing cougar labels. Dec 31, 2011 Full Review Ross Ruediger Bullz-Eye.com From a plot standpoint, there isn't much that's remarkable about it, yet its two central figures are so honestly drawn that they make up for any predictability along the way. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 13, 2011 Full Review Brian Orndorf BrianOrndorf.com Blessed with a promising concept for a dark comedy, "Meet Monica Velour" would rather tug heartstrings or script repetitive behavior from derivative characters.
